we lost to southern....and alabama state....and you are excited?

I was disappointed by those losses. I was really hoping that we would do well in our NC play. However, I am extremely excited about the future. I was talking with a friend last night about this. Watching the games, you can see a lot of diamonds in the rough. They need to get used to playing college ball and not all of the pieces of the puzzle are there, but you can see that in the next few years, we are going to be great!
Again talking with my friend, we were talking about Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, and LeBron James. Jordan was drafted in 1984 by the Bulls. The Bulls didn't win their first championship until 1991. It took time for Jordan to get adjusted to the level of play in the NBA and lead his team to a championship. You could see the greatness even in his rookie year. LeBron James took the Cavs to the Finals last year, but he is playing the entire game by himself. He doesn't have the supporting cast yet. He hasn't gained the experience he needs at the NBA level yet. Duncan was able to win a championship within his first two years. However, it was not because he played great at the NBA level. He had proven winners (Robinson, Kerr, etc.) playing with him. It took him a while before his level of play was up to where he could lead the team.
The thing that is going to be fun about watching this year won't be the losses...cause there will probably be a lot of those. It will be fun to see what our team will become. If some great things happen (i.e. big wins over big teams), we can celebrate more.

Doh can spot talent and get it. He recruited all the players that won the NCAA championship at UNC without him. I am sure that these guys will do very well over time, they just need time.

These losses are the result of non-existent recruiting efforts (excluding Bamba) during Dement's final year and Tubbs' 2 years on the hilltop.

This is a copout. We are not starting 5 freshman. Roberts, Killen and Bamba started 30 plus games each last season. Yes, the freshman are playing alot, but that is no excuse to lose these types of games at home. Once again, if we were losing to respectable mid major programs like Dayton, or similiar, that would be one thing to rationalize. Alabama State and Southern? Please.

also, XC, maybe we shouldnt have run off Dez Willingham this year. Perhaps with a fourth returning starter we could have held off a team that lost to Paul Quinn.

I think we have short memories. As I recall there was concern on this board last year about what might happen this year with 7 freshman. Yes Killen, Fall and Roberts are returning starters but that does not say alot. Killen and Roberts were not and are not superstars. They can be very erratic. Fall is still a work in progress. Played well on Sunday but fouled out early on Saturday. Did we have better tallent than Southern and AL State? yes! But this does not necessarily translate into wins especially where notwithstanding the returning upperclassmen, we are in fact relying very heavily on inexperienced freshman. I do not think the sky is falling. Let's give this thing a chance.

Why do you say Dex was run off? I do not know why he left but I would assume he and Doh had a talk after the season about his role on the team and Doh's expectations. That could have resulted in him deciding to leave the team.
