Re: SMU record 6-6 - prove me wrong
Could have had 8 wins last year with some push/ingenuity on goal-line offense.
Re: SMU record 6-6 - prove me wrong
I think Rutgers may be beatable, but Temple is not a gimme. They pushed Penn State as recently as two years ago. USF was one of the best in the BE last year. Louisville may be more vulnerable in football than some think.
So for what its worth.
Lets assume we go 1-3 OOC.
We have to go 5-3 to end up at 6-6
I hope that we can beat TCU or TT.
My wet dream has us 4-0 OOC and ranked #1 in the Country in week 6.
6-6 is a sound prediction and would require a great coaching job to get us there.

USF was terrible last year but then again we're a terrible road team so it evens out.

How many teams with winning records have we beaten at home during JJ's tenure?AusTxPony wrote:Most likely upsets are TTech and Rutgers. We're so much better at home than on the road. I think you got it right the rest of the way. Best record 8 - 4.

Re: SMU record 6-6 - prove me wrong
I want to believe...but this program has pretty consistently been "mildly disappointing" since winning that 1st Hawaii Bowl title. They teased us with that strong start after beating TCU and UCF a couple years back and last year's finish was fun, but unless we can compete with and beat at least one of our former SWC mate non-conference foes, I think it will be more of the same this season.
I could see anywhere from 7-5 to 3-9 and as much as I hate to say it, I think things start ugly with losses to Tech, A&M and TCU. We lose to Montana State and the season is a disaster. We beat Tech or TCU, we go on to a winning season. I just hope we can find a way to go at least 4-2 at Ford. I see that as our only hope of winning 6 games and being bowl eligible.

Actually SMU beat Arkansas three years in a row ('95-'97).1983 Cotton Bowl wrote:In my time following SMU football, I can remember 1 win against an SEC school (Arky in 97) and one win against a Big-12 school (KU 2000).
USF was 3-9 last season (1-6 in conference), which led to a coaching change. http://espn.go.com/college-football/sta ... /year/2012EastStang wrote:USF was one of the best in the BE last year.
They are supposed to be very good but SMU won't play them this year.EastStang wrote:Louisville may be more vulnerable in football than some think.

We lost at Wazzu in 2009 (we were their only win), we've never beaten UCF in Orlando (0-3), Nevada, Fresno State and Pitt were all neutral site bowl wins. Currently our only Jones era road win over a team that finished with a winning record was in 2011 at TCU (11-2).

Sounds bad. But how many teams did we play on the road who ended up with a winning record?

We're discounting 2008, so 13 losses to 1 win. Again, sounds bad. But hang with me here.sbsmith wrote:ponyboy wrote:Sounds bad. But how many teams did we play on the road who ended up with a winning record?

We won 57% of our games in the past four years. How did other teams with a comparable overall winning percentage do on the road against winning teams?
