You're right. However . . . getting to the tourney is ahead of schedule (and the way the team played for most of the season raised those expectations). Getting to the NIT is not, though. IMHO. It's about where I thought we'd be.
I'm sorry, but the #1 seed in the NIT with a very young squad is WAAAY ahead of schedule. It really is aweseome that you and other fans have higher expections but your mental health will improve when you choose to see the shot glass as half full.

After watching this squad at American Airline Center against TCU (right after Jalen hauled arse), if you would have told me we would be a 1 seed in the NIT and had signed a top 5 player in the NATION for next year, I would have taken it in a second. Still stings, but we are ahead of schedule by at least a year.

All this "ahead of schedule"-talk really bothers me. We earned our wins and our ranking. We got disrespected and snubbed. Period. I get that re-directing your attention to some fictional "schedule" is a calming strategy, but it is fictional--as evidenced by our play this year.

Agree. This team out did my expectations this year. I thought an NIT this year would be amazing, but then this team improved much quicker than I thought. They earned their wins, and earned their shot at the NCAA. I'm most pissed for Shawn and Nick, they deserve to be in. As a fan, I will get my happiness next year as the team continues to improve, but that doesn't make the gut punch I felt yesterday any easier.

Completely understandable feeling. The problem is you're putting way too much weight on the polls; polls are garbage and completely meaningless. The NCAA has two months of programming to provide in November and December. SMU got punished for playing a complete bucket of garbage (for their OOC). It's fair to say that SMU scheduled better this year. It's fair to say it was hard to schedule teams given the Moody construction. It's even fair to say it was a young team and HCLB didn't want to crush the team. The NCAA want a juicy OOC and SMU simply did not deliver. The polls were almost cruel to SMU and our fans this year.

Re: Ron Wellman is a biased [deleted] Postby sadderbudweiser » Sun Mar 16, 2014 9:29 pm Well, when this is the big news on YOUR campus I guess you take it out on SMU: WFU shoots for Ultimate Frisbee gold With three consecutive regional championships in its pocket and a roster stacked full of returning players, the Wake Forest men’s Ultimate Frisbee team is posed to make a run at the national tournament May 17-18 in Westerville, Ohio.

This. Am spitting nails angry. Please players be as angry as our fans and play to your ability. If they do, it will take just an iota of hate off my mood. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Win a few NIT games...get Elijah Thomas to commit...that should do the trick.

Our stats back up our ranking...so do our wins against perennial Elite 8 teams like Memphis, UCONN and Cinncinati. I wouldn't call them "garbage"...just not what 10 wrinkle-y men were interested in. Let's face it, they were looking for any excuse not to include SMU...we acquiesced.

The 12 seed play in game should be Xavier v. SMU, in my opinion.
A). 21-13, RPI of 55, wins over Cuse, Pitt, Tennessee B). 23-9, RPI of 53, wins over UConnx2, Cincy, Memphis
I'd take team B every time.

I hear you, and I'm not trying to spin this. Frankly, I should probably stop posting until October! That said, a few wins against UConn, Cincy, and Memphis didn't counterbalance games against a bad TCU, a bad URI, a bad Texas State, a bad Arkansas PB, SHSU, a bad McNeese, a bad UIC, a bad Tex - Pan Am, a bad Hofstra, and several really bad AAC members (some of which we lost to). Half the schedule was against really bad teams. HCLB will upgrade, have faith. IMO, the 2014-2015 season starts Wednesday...

Okay. For the umpteenth million time. The crappy OOC was due to SMU playing in a high school gym (Garland's Culwell Center) that most people in Dallas have no clue of where it's located. . . Judging from this season ticket holder who made every 100 mile round trip to watch Now that Moody is operational, should be better OOC games in Dallas. . . TCwho will find out about lousy OOC schedule this year playing in the FWISD high school gym (Wilkerson Greines), since their coliseum will be closed this year.

Um, don't disagree, and I mentioned as much up top. However, the Committee wasn't going to give SMU a pass because they were building a new gym.
