SMU secondary

Postby DallasDiehard » Tue Sep 13, 2005 10:15 am

The DBs have played far better this year -- Ro is a constant, Jamey Harper is second in the country in INTs per game, and Brandon Jones had a sensational tip on the sideline in the win over TCU. They're going to have to come up huge again this week, because Reggie McNeal is a better passer than folks give him credit for -- only 4 INTs last year.

Baylor's QB had zero.. and Tye Gunn had 3 last year..

All that doesn't matter. Our defense is going to have to step-up and keep us in this one.

Like I said.. would be great to hang around for a quarter or half.. but most important to get ready for conference and stay healthy.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Our secondary has improved, but the real reason for success is two fold. 1) we have two linebackers that are basically safeties, allowing us to play a base 4-3 defense under almost any circumstance. 2) Our d-line has taken a massive step up. This is easily the most pressure we have put on a quarterback in a long, long time. That makes the secondary look a LOT better.

They key to aTm game will be whether or not SMU can get the same pass rush on Reggie McNeal. McNeal is an average QB when he is hurried, but he will eat you alive if he has time to throw. It will be up to the db's to just stay in their lanes and keep the WR's in front of them.

Hmm, that felt kinda like generic coachspeak. It's taken over my brain!

That's true, but McNeal is better than either one.
