In the press conference when Phil was asked about being competetive against A&M here was his response...
Phil Bennett Press Conference... wrote:I'm not gonna' mention the word competetive, I can't do that. Hell, I want to win. You know, I won't do that. I mean, I got DeMyron Martin back there, and I'm gonna' tell you something, he doesn't want to go down there and be competetive, [to DeMyron] do you? He wants to win.
Competetive? Nah... let's go win the game...

Right attitude.
The players and their parents really like Phil Bennett. The players that do not pick SMU do not buy into his personality or phylosophy. OK that is always going to happen.
These players have bought into the idea that with hard work and time... all things get better.
Are we a little early in the plan, maybe. Can we go down to A$M and win, maybe.
Do we want the coach and players to believe they can - Hell Yes.

We've all stressed how big confidence is with this team. They believe they can do it and that is THE biggest thing right now IMO.

Yes, we think we can do it. But take this team and look back three years ago ( talent wise ) and today.
Not only does the team think they can win but we have the horses to win this race. ( young horses ) No guarantee but with the right breaks - Hell Yes.
We still need 40 % BIG MEN is the next recruiting class. Lets get three deep at every line position O&D and then a few fill in's.
Got to love Martin.

Yes, we think we can do it.
Bus, I am pretty sure you have used up all your eligibility.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

If it is not age it would be my state of debilitation that would keep me off the field.

That being said, they are like 32-2 in non-conference games at Kyle since the mid 90s.

32-3 is still a fine record after this weekend.

Bennett followed that up with talking about how DeMyron "had a chance to play for [the Aggies]", and when he decided to commit to us - A&M was on the schedule and that it was a game he was already looking forward to...
You have to love a guy like DeMyron... injured his junior season in high school, only to come out and rush for a mile and a quarter (2,022 yards) and be named the District 9-5A player of the year and then be named the county all 4A-%A player of the year... late offers rushed in from the likes of A&M and Arkansas (have to remember that that was the year Arkansas upset Texas), and he sticks with SMU, because we had been in on him when no one else thought anything of him.
Thank you DeMyron... and, I might add, a great job by the coaching staff of recognizing talent potential...
Beat the Aggies.

yeah but makes you kinda wonder who else is sitting on the bench who could help the Ponies. I've got several in mind. I just don't get Bennett's use of younger players.

What scared me was Bennet's comment about "forgetting" to use DeMyron against Baylor. Not that he would have won us the game or any jazz like that...but how do you forget to use a player??

One can not be sure that the "I forgot" or the "dog ate my homework" excuse applies. One wonders if there isn't more to this story and we will never know.
