I came into this season hopeful we could win 20 games and get a NIT bid, so I'm really pleased we got the #1 seed and have been able to play 3 nationally televised home games that are probably doing wonders for our image. All the comments from the broadcast team about Moody being the best environment they've seen...well, we can't buy that kind of publicity and it wouldn't have happened with an appearance in the Big Dance unless we had been able to advance to the Sweet 16. I know others will disagree, but I'm not sure we were ready for the big show with as poorly as we finished the season.

I saw spurts against LSU that made me feel really good about the state of the program. When we play great defense and get transition hoops after sharing the ball, it's like show time in Moody. I want to see more of that tonight and remain hopeful the guys will play a complete game before we are done with the NIT.

I'm quite satisfied with how this season has gone. Just finished listening to HCLB interview on 770am - he finished up with the best point I've heard about how things have gone - he said, "There are 20 teams left in the two big tourneys - after this weekend there will only be 8 teams - and SMU is one of them - how cool is that?" I could hear the mile-wide smile in his voice as he said it, too.

In all honesty I am satisfied beyond expectations.

That's the problem. Now I want it all.

I get it that we are not in the Big Dance. I get it that we will not get the attention of a one and done team in the NCAA.

But i want the NIT championship. This team can do it. And it will be a point of pride for this team.

Who had the better overall season?

There is no way to predict how St. John's would have performed in the NCAA tournament. They clearly wanted no part of the NIT and it showed. Had they been in the NCAA tournament they might have had an inspired performance and won a couple of games. Lavin has a history of barely getting in and subsequently winning a couple.

That's a lot of supposition. What did St. John's show that they are capable of winning multiple NCAA games? Also, Lavin's runs were at UCLA. A totally different beast than St. John's.

They may have also proven that they really didn't belong. Post-season performance is not a valid argument to validate a team belonging. Invitations are based purely on regular season performance, not expected post-season performance.

If so, then what did St, John show in the regular season to demonstrate they were worthy?

Unless you win the NCAA tournament or make the Final Four it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day people will simply remember whether or not you made the tournament or whether or not you made the NIT.

Wrong, no one cares when you go one and done in the NCAA tournament. If people did, Nebraska basketball would get a lot more love.

St John's has 30 NIT appearances. Is that really something to be proud of? To me that shows that they have been a solid program that simply can't get it done.

Proud? I don't know, you'd have to ask a St. John's fan. As for their high number of appearances, I'd attribute it to their location more than anything else.

Years down the road I would rather be able to say we have 10 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances than say we have 7 NCAA tournament appearances and 3 NIT appearances and won it once and made it to NY another time.

It depends upon what a school does in those 10 appearances. If those were 10 straight losses, I'd argue that program can't get it done.

Eh, I was beyond livid when it was announced. But I think these past three games have been absolutely perfect for where we are as a program right now.

This will be the perfect stepping stone, regardless of what we did at the Garden, going into season 3 of the LB era. I can't wait.
