NCAA, still cannot get it right

Postby newshound » Thu Mar 27, 2014 10:11 am

Just called SMU for tickets to the NIT at MSG.

Told the only allotment is VERY small and reserved for team, staff, etc. And those folks should have an allotment.

Told our sections are 105 and 106, yet the interactive map on Ticketmaster doesn't work and it keeps wanted to seat me in 119.

How in the wide, wide world of sports is there NOT AN ALLOTMENT for the participating teams' fans? Heaven forbid if St. John's had made the final. This is not a shot at SMU; our ticket office has been awesome throughout. This is a shot at the NCAA -- which owns the NIT now. I mean, this is the ultimate WTF?

SMU has thousands of alumni in NYC and the whole eastern seaboard, yet they want to scatter us throughout a 19,000-seat building that has no chance of being sold out.

I didn't have any problem getting a ticket in 105. There are lots available.

Not great seats though. Basically in a corner. That's a joke. The teams should at least have foul line seats.

Many of the good seats have already been sold to corporations who use it for entertaining clients. There is no way the NCAA would give up those sales in hopes that Clemson, FSU, or Minnesota fans would snap up all those tickets at the last minute.

There are plenty of seats in 105 if you want them from the tournament's site. If you want better seats, StubHub has some good seats at reasonable (by NYC standards) prices.

Good luck.

It's also better than SMU receiving a huge allotment and them being on the hook for every unsold ticket as is the case with most events. Ask teams that get to a bowl game how that works out. Or conferences that make their schools pay for unsold tickets to a conference tournament.
