We really need a back court player who has two years of eligibility to transition through the potentially top heavy 2016 class bringing/sustaining experience assuming Mudiay is a one and done. Also, a true center who could transition for at least a year on through Moreia and Turner if he would come and be a one and done. Seems like were have sufficient depth at the forward positions were we are young, athletic and now with good experience.

Tolbert plays the 4 not the 3. Only freshman 4 we have is Ben Moore. Also, we still have one more scholarship to get a back court player but now we do not have to be concerned with getting Turner as much.

I just talked to a Tech Buddy of mine that follows all Tech sports closely. He said they are not sad to see Tolbert go.

Yes, that will be interesting. I really like Sterling Brown, though, and I think he continues to play the position he plays now and stays at SMU.

Next year:

- MK at center (since that's what Brown seems to think is his position - I disagree, I think it's power forward but whatever).
- B. Moore (20 pounds of muscle later).
- Sterling
- Mudiay
- Nic

Then you have Cannen, Tolbert, Manuel and Frazier as solid solid backups and all get big time minutes. (Yanick? I have no idea). Too bad, also, that Head seems for whatever reason, a dud.

From EJ Holland in the DMN

Texas Tech forward Jordan Tolbert is transferring to SMU, according to Scout.com’s Evan Daniels.

Tolbert was Texas Tech’s second leading scorer this season and one of the Red Raiders’ mainstays the past three years as the program has had four coaches in as many years. The 6-foot-7, 225-pounder averaged 10.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Originally from the Dallas-area, Tolbert could be eligible immediately because he is moving closer to home to be with his mother after his father recently passed away.

If he is, Tolbert could fill the void left behind by graduating forward Shawn Williams, who is only one of two seniors on SMU’s roster. Tolbert is best described as extremely athletic and powerful.

Since Larry Brown’s arrival, SMU has brought in a slew of transfers including leading scorer Nic Moore (Illinois State), Markus Kennedy (Villanova) and Crandall Head (Illinois). All three had to sit out a year before suiting up this season.

Tolbert attended Fort Worth All Saints, where he averaged 17.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. A three-star prospect, Tolbert chose Texas Tech over offers from Arizona State, Colorado, SMU, Wichita State and others.

He made the decision to transfer to SMU after visiting over the weekend.

Looks like Tech must have a WDNWHA committee also.

While Ben is good and Tolbert is better Ben imo.

Next year imo:

MK
Tolbert or Cannen
Sterling or KF
Mudiay
Nic

My goodness. We are just taking him for 1 year until we get in a loaded 2015 class.

He developed into a pretty good player over the last 3 years. Had offers from Arizona State and Colorado as well as others coming out of high school.

been reading Tech boards all weekend and the vast majority of Tech fans are sad to see him go albeit disappointed he didn't reach full potential
