Hello all:

New Member, but a long time alumnus. I grew up in Memphis on a steady diet of Memphis basketball, but I attended SMU. At the time, SMU was switching conferences annually from the SWC to the WAC to whatever. I graduated in '98. I remember watching the Ponies get pounded by Arkansas at Moody when there were more Arkansas fans in the stands. Frankly, being a Memphis fans and growing up at the Mid-South Colliseum, it was sad.

I have tried to attend the Memphis-SMU games here in Memphis. Until recently, they haven't been terribly competitive. But, the past two years have been fun to watch. I knew that the money spent on Moody would help the program. The progress made this year has been incredible. Next year, I fully expect SMU to be better than Memphis, something I never thought I would see.

To those of you in Dallas, enjoy it. The rest of us will just have to enjoy it vicariously.

Pony Up!

Welcome. I was born and raised in Memphis as well. Class of 93. My boyhood hoops was all about Dana Kirk, Memphis St, Andre Turner and Keith Lee. I remember the great battles with Crum and Louisville in the Metro conference (my recollection is that Memphis St usually lost). When they played Georgetown in the tourney it was the most exciting time in Memphis sports history. I remember my teacher stopping class and bringing the TV out to watch (I THINK I'm remembering that correctly).

Of course, I haven't been back since 2001 and stopped following Memphis bball. Now, I just like following my alma mater beating them.

I still hate Loserville with a burning passion. Beating the Cardinals twice this season makes this season acceptable as a Memphis fan.

Those seasons under Kirk were great. The team then had Andre Tuner, Baskerville Holmes, Doom Haynes, Keith Lee, and William Bedford, along with a great bench. They were great to watch.
