Brown in, Blacklock out!
Larry Brown, the former SMU Men’s basketball coach, has accepted the head coaching position of the Harlem Globetrotters. Brown will assume Headcoaching responsibilities after tonight’s SMU basketball game against Clemson in Madison Square Garden.
Brown, a well traveled coached, said the nomadic Globetrotters fit his wanderlust. “I can’t wait to get on the road and kick some General tail’†said Brown from a Starbucks in the Garment District. “The Big Apple is great but Enid has been calling my name lately. Aren’t some of these threads bitchin’!†said Brown. Brown, who replaces Jimmy Blacklock as head coach, will catch up to the Globetrotters in time for their April 2,2014 7 PM tipoff in Enid, OK. Brown said,†I hate it that I can’t make tonight’s Globetrotter game in Dodge City. That Wyatt Earp thing is so, like cool.â€
Brown has engineered a turnaround at SMU from a perpetual loser to a 26-9 team this year. And it’s that turnaround that brought him the opportunity to coach the Globetrotters. Said Brown, “Had the kids not made it to the Semifinals of the NIT, I would never have run into my old buddy Sidd Finch. Sidd told me I wasn’t getting any younger and sure looked like hell and I should travel the world on someone else’s’ dime before I retire. The Globetrotters were perfect for that.â€
Big Easy of the Globetrotters, when asked about Brown and his reputation as a winning coach said, “Who? It’s not like we are ever going to lose so who cares about the coach!â€
The SMU players took the news in stride and voted as team to forego tonight’s game and catch Phantom instead.
