How far could this team have gone in the NCAA Tournament?

Postby Rebel10 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 8:43 pm

I just wonder how far could this team have gone in the NCAA Tournament. I think the team would have represented to AAC very well and might even still be playing now.

the entire tourney depends on your draw; we could have been in the 8/9 game against KY

I'll take 2 AAC Champions. Shaping up nicely.

Bring them. Not afraid of anyone regardless of the draw.

And UConn women will win the ladies' NCAA. Good showings for the AAC.

I do not think we could have made it past the 2d round. We are still a bit too young, inconsistent and with out sufficient outside shooting. The NIT was probably the best thing that could have happened as it gave us a considerable wealth of experience and solidified our fan base for the future. Not sure we could have over come our very slow 1st half play during much of the season and during most of the NIT games if we were playing a top quality team with depth and out side shooting..

I totally disagree with you but you are entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong. LOL.

I'm not sure how they would've.

The last three games they were not playing that well...especially the Houston one. The UCI game seemed to get them refocused at the start of the second half.

The homer in me wants to believe they would've played just as well in the tourny, but the NIT just fits them perfectly for this season. Great stepping stone into year 3 imo.

Probably would have done ok as long as we did not get Houston in the draw.

Probably could have won our first game.

Making it to the Sweet 16 would have been stellar.

Not sure anything beyond that would be realistic, but we definitely could've beaten Stanford/Dayton...

So much of it really depends on your draw. As a previous poster noted, we could've ended up in the 8/9 game with Kentucky. I'd have loved a shot at them, but they are playing very, very well. Alternately, we could've gotten Dayton's draw and easily ended up in the Elite 8. You never know. Honestly, as much as I'm loving the NIT run, not knowing how we could've performed will bug me until next year's Selection Sunday.

I still think a tourney appearance would have been better for us in terms of recruiting, but I will not deny that I am enjoying this NIT run... just hope people outside the SMU and other teams in the NIT are taking notice of our success... having LB as our coach probably helps our cause in that sense.
