SMU fan attendence last night? For those of you who were there, how many SMU fans were in attendance? It was really hard to tell from watching on TV.. Thanks!!
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? It's hard to tell in an arena that holds 17,000 when your fans are spread out all over. My guess? 800-1000.
Estimates on the Pre- party were around 300. All four teams seemed to have a similar amount but most of the fans for the second game arrived during our second half. The place was really full and rocking for the final 10 minutes when we turned it around. Party at The Wopper!
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?
I would actually say it was a pretty even split between SMU and Clemson fans (with a few FSU and Gopher fans mixed in early on). The one thing for sure was we were much louder, at one point we even drowned out a chant Clemson was doing with our own S-M-U chant.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?
The arena holds 17,000-ish; however, there were ZERO people sitting in any of the upper deck seats and very few in the club seats. While the lower bowl wasn't full, it wasn't "empty" either. Plus, many of the empty seats were filling up in the 2nd half as Minnesota and FSU fans started to arrive. My guess is that total attendance (for both games) was 7-8,000 with 1/4 of that SMU fans. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? On TV it seemed like all they showed were SMU fans during our game
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?I hear it was 'Moodyson' Square Garden in the second half.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?I'd say we had 1,000, and easily as many as Klempson. Their safety-vest orange just really stands out.
Preparty was fun too; I hope next time whoever is in charge remembers to get Peruna and Pony Battle Cry preloaded in the bar's PA system so I don't have to do it with my iPhone mid-event.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? These seem like low ball estimates to me. I saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in years 20+ at the game that I never see at any SMU events. I wouldn't be surprised if we had over 1.5k actual fans there.
Maybe I was mistaking the cheers of Minnesota and FSU fans for our fans in the second half, but it sure felt like the majority of the crowd was with us. And there was a lot of red.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?Don't know how but we need to persuade the left overs from FSU and Clemson to be SMU fans for a day.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?I thought the crowd was really load. We definitely took over the chanting in the second half.
Seemed like a lot of Gopher fans, however, during the second game. We need to recruit more undecideds to come over to the good side!
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? It is safe to say there were a LOT of SMU fans there. I stood outside waiting for a friend for about 15 minutes and based on people walking by I was afraid the ratio was gonna be Clemson over us by 10 to 1, but it was much closer to 60-40... with that being said, the SMU fans were MUCH louder. No question about it. We drowned them out on several occasions. For someone who has suffered for decades at the lack of fervor of our fans, I will tell you without a doubt that the line "Spirit's the best in the land" was PERFECTLY apt last night.
Proud to be a MUSTANG!
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? You could hear the S-M-U chants on ESPN loud and clear all through the second half. That was impressive - and something I don't think I ever thought I'd hear at the Garden.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night?SMU fans were outstanding. They were loud from the beginning and were rocking at the end. I do not even remember a TV shot of Clemson fans. Every shot was of SMU fans. I forgot to look at the TV production crew to see if maybe we had a hidden hand, but ESPN's parent company ABC has legendary sports director and producer Bobby Goodrich who was and outstanding SMU football player graduating in 1967. For years Bobby did the Olympics, ABC's Wide World of Sports and Monday night football.
Re: SMU fan attendence last night? From what I could find, last night’s attendance was 7193 or so which is about 100 more than at Moody against Cal. If true, I hope Thursday’s crowd is better.
