Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadRick is certainly easy to hate, and he made his son look like a fool on national TV, but let's not go crazy with the Secret Game Plan conspiracy theories.
I am far from a hoops guru, but little Richard didn't need daddy to spell it out for him: 1) Contact & Pressure = sloppy turnovers 2) Stay chippy with Nic Moore = retaliation & foul trouble 3) Put them on the line = they suck at FTs (unless they're trying to miss) 4) Press, Press, Press = its like they stared at Medusa Heck, they didn't even do most of these things to us. Unfortunately, we let this game slip. I hope our guys really focus on free throws this off-season. I hope we figure out the press. I also hope Larry makes them run 1,000,000 lines every time they get excited and rush a long, lazy pass in transition after a defensive board, when we should reset, settle down, and run some clock.
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadmy problem is not with him sharing the scouting report on SMU. That's within the bounds of gamesmanship. My problem is with him undermining his son's authority. How are the Minnesota players supposed to take Rich seriously when his dad is yelling at him from the stands and superseding his command
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadRick should be embarrassed but he is too arrogant to be embarrassed. I'm no longer sorry that UK beat Louisville. I had gotten over his insult of Larry Brown at Moody by not sending his players to shake hands at intros, but watching him last night now its clear the guy is just a tool.
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dad
I really don't think Richard cared 0.001% as much as the people on this board seem to. He (or maybe a Minnesota player) is probably the only one that could convince me otherwise. Everyone yells from the stands; it's not like Rick ran down on the court and pushed his son out of the huddle. Not even close. Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadmaybe I am being a homer, but I thought Rick was mostly joking around at the end there. It wasn't like he had the entire team huddled around him. For all we know, the Gopher players didn't even notice him in the stands.
Rick was just shouting blanked statements like "No timeouts left!" and "foul him!" I agree that Rick did steal some of his son's thunder, which is unfortunate. But, for the most part, I don't think anyone can reasonably say Rick had an impact on the game. The way the Gophers played after that timeout Richard took when you guys took a 7 point lead was truly impressive. I feel good about Richard

Richard is a good coach that will do well at Minnesota. That is until another more prominent school comes calling. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dad
True. Some say he is the heir to Louisville once his dad retires. I for one don't think there are a lot of programs that would be worth leaving for.. Outside of the premiere basketball schools like Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse, Kansas, etc., Minnesota is up there with the rest of the nation. You guys did get Larry Brown tho and it seems like he is there to stay. Why not Richard too?

Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dad
The Minnesota job will be better should Norwood Teague get the practice facility built, which I'm hearing has a real chance of happening. Still love The Barn!
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadRichard seemed okay. Living a bit off his last name, but not the first or last to do that.
Rick, on the other hand, is a complete [deleted]. I hope we play them next year and kick their [deleted].
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadSMU alums as a whole have no place criticizing anyone for benefiting from their successful daddy.

Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dadNobody is criticizing the son. The Dad however......
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dad
Give it a break. What is it where guys on this board constantly try to keep SMU fans from talking trash. I just don't get it. We get to talk as much trash as we want just like fans any other school or any other sports team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Rick Pitino, helicopter dad
Some people don't like when fans of any team talk unsubstantiated trash, even fans of their own team. Some people don't like when fans of their team don't talk trash, even when it's unsubstantiated. There are a lot of both types on just about any fan board...
