Re: AACMore ammo for next year. Keep the high road like Coach Brown. Bigger and better things are coming.
And yes...I absolutely LOVE watching UCONN win. And I will be in a suite cheering them on Monday night for the simple reason that SMU should have been in this tourney. And I want the national champion to be a team we hammered twice. This takes nothing away from the special moments we all had during the NIT run at our home court. Man...those were incredible games! Everything happens for a reason. Very excited about what's to come but hoping nobody assumes it's a given.
Re: AAC
Simple rule for the selection committee: if you don't go one ( or two) better than 500 in your conference you don't dance. Same with regular season record. If you win your conference tourney you still dance. The .500 rule would apply to at large bids only. Party at The Wopper!
Re: AACOne of the bigger, unsaid, clues I have a feeling the selection committee will take note of is how well we traveled to the Garden. They don't say it, but there's a reason well beyond RPI, SOS, etc etc that all those big state schools made (B1G, Big 12, etc) it in. It's because 50 freaking thousand students go there every year and they can sell a [Deleted] load of tickets. That's a HUGE part of the selection, just no one really says it. I think we showed we support our team although we are a small, private school. LB knows this, that's why he keeps praising our support and said the showing in MSG was huge. Now the cmte knows. Keep it going.

Re: AAC^
Good point. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: AACOjai, I think it is a factor as well.
Given our students diversity in terms of where we live (50% out of state) + the relative affluence of so many of our alumni translates to potentially 2-5k+ people who can travel anywhere in the US to support our team if they are playing a meaningful game. May not be enough fan support for FB, i.e. SMU's last visit to the Sun Bowl, but should be more than enough for BB.
Re: AACActually, I was a student at Alabama and attended the 1983 SunBowl in El Paso. It was COLD, bitter cold that day. It was also on Christmas Eve, so travel was a mess. A lot people either left after the first few minutes or watched from their hotel rooms. I think SMU would travel nicely now. It was a nice crowd in B-ham a couple of years ago. With a coach who reached out to the fans as opposed to alienating them likely would gleam good results.
Re: AAC
A better reference point would be the Birmingham bowl - where we brought a lot more people than most expected. That excitement carried over to a huge road crowd at the Baylor opener the next year as well. For our size we travel very well for meaningful games. Shake It Off Moody
Re: AAC
True, but remember that NCAA first round, second round and final tournament tickets are on sale before the season begins and always sell out. The only tickets available are the limited allotments set aside and afforded to the participating schools. I am not sure your travel theory is completely correct.

Re: AAC
So we should start buying now? How do other schools do it? Part of it is building a national brand so if we play in a location that has no team within a good range, we can get the Tshirt fans out cheering us on as well as those SMU alums who can get there. Re: AACYeah. When they had they early rounds here in Little Rock, tickets went on sale very early for area residents. We had to order and give credit card numbers and then as the tournament neared, a drawing was held for those that had requested tickets. I was able to get 4 for that year.
I cheered for Austin Peay just so I could join in the "Let's go Peay" yell. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
