There may not have been a happier and prouder person on the court after the game than AAC commissioner Mike Aresco. He was beaming with joy over the Connecticut Huskies' 60-54 national championship win over Kentucky.

I wonder how long will we keep that if it starts out like that.

AAC = Power Conference.

I am sorry, but TV $ does not equal greatness. Success on the court/gridiron should be the measuring stick, and by that valuation, the AAC is definitely a "P6" conference.

SMU might be the only AAC team which made it to the finals and did not win.

WNIT Rutgers
NIT Runner Up SMU

Monetizing success on the court/gridiron is what makes a conference powerful. There are only 5 conferences in collegiate athletics that are doing that, hence the P5 moniker.

I really do wonder how the Catholic schools that broke away are feeling about that decision at the moment. The AAC programs have much greater long term staying power than some of the dregs they brought with them to keep the Big East. UConn, Cincinnati, Memphis, SMU, and Temple will be as good a top half of a conference as there is in the country.

What are the chances of the AAC renegotiating its TV deal with ESPN for more money?
Back off Warchild seriously.

We are definitely in a position to ask for more money. Hopefully put us im between Mid Majors and Power Conference money (10M per school?)

But not yet...we need more Fiesta Bowls and Basketball Final Fours..

The chances are good that the AAC can get more money from ESPN but it won't be close to P5 money ( 5-7 mil per school since ESPN has all the leverage). Of course if some of the programs have too much success then ESPN will just use those programs to enhance their other conference brands and stiff the AAC leftovers. Very slippery slope for the conference right now.

I realize the Catholics left and aligned with other privates (Creighton Xavier etc).

What are the odds that group undergoes something akin to what happened with the WAC 16? What was that, the airport 7 that bolted the other 9?

What if GTown/Nova/Seton Hall/St John's/Providence 'mon back?

Well, let's see . . .

Of the 2 major revenue sports the AAC produced the Fiesta Bowl winner in football (over the mighty Big12 Baylor Bums) and the NCAA tournament champions AND NIT runner up.

So the AAC beat the Big12 and the SEC in the biggest games that matter the most.

IN THE FIRST YEAR!

All arguments that we are not a P5 is easily put to bed.

And, with a very media savvy Commish, if we can continue the success on the field/court, the money and exposure will come.

Maybe time to think outside of the box and create a P6 conference that is basketball-based, and keep working on the P6 for football with a different cast. I don't see that our current membership warrants a P-anything until we conference members are routinely "upsetting" P5 member schools.
