Yes all coaches do that but you won't see coaches that want build national championship programs filling their classes with players that no one else wants because recruiting those players will result in far more misses than hits.

June, better than anyone else, can turn coal into diamonds. However, we need to do better than that and cannot play that game any longer

back in the day of poodle skirts, SMU still had its bevy of desirable females. Everyone with sight could tell who the best faces and best bodies were. Some would look in the mirror and quickly dismiss their own chances with such specimens. So you went after the girls who were"cute,"hoping that when you picked them up for your date,make-up would turn them into ravishing beauties. 1 out of 10 times it actually happened. The other 9 were 1-and-dones. The disgusting part was going to a party and seeing some dweeb with a girl you were too afraid to ask. But since you remember your 1 for 10, you figure it is still easier to fish in that stream than to go fox hunting like the dweeb.
But I'm sure none of this applies to our recruiting efforts

Wait, when the [deleted] did you join the committee?? They still won't even TALK to ME!
He is not on the committee. Just giving an opinion.
Whew. Had me worried for a sec.

To me it is clear June has no plans to coach anywhere next year. He isn't even laying the foundation with kids.
I would he curious if someone has tallied the known offers outstanding and compared it to the number of known outstanding offers for other schools.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Could it be that he has the actual best interests of the kids themselves in mind? Is that a possibility? You don't recruit a kid to come to a school you know you're leaving, especially when you might not be a good fit for the next guy's scheme. Might this be what's going on?

It can't be that otherwise they'd have completely shut down their recruiting operation (no offers, no visits, no contact, etc). I don't think June knows for sure he won't be here in 2015. I think he wants to be here as long as this is his best paying option. Most people are just assuming that's he's a lame duck because of the impending disaster that will be the 2014 football season (after which it will become much easier to sever ties with him). Although it would be a hell of a lot better for the new guy if June avoids loading up on spares that will just be culled from the class (could cause some HS relations issues depending on the amount and location of the recruits).

I not only think he doesn't know he won't be here, I would bet that he firmly believes he will. I'm also not sure I don't agree with that. I'm not saying he should or shouldn't be here, but I'm thinking he will be. I also think there's something to the idea that he doesn't spend a lot (or in some cases any) time chasing the top marquee players because it appears they're on the fast track to Austin or College Station or Baton Rouge. If he doesn't go over those guys, I fully agree that there are more mid-level guys that can be chased. But we knew when he was hired that he's wired a little differently than most people. In some ways, it leaves us scratching our heads, in other ways, it's quirky and different. I don't understand it sometimes, just like everyone else. But that's not my call, either.

If JJ has one of those years that his team does unexpectedly well...like 8 or 9 wins...I'm sure he will be back. And, those kind of years do happen. I'm sure most everyone on this board has seen one.

If he does have a 9 win season, it will become "our team" instead of "his team"

It already is our team.
