Re: Next Massive Wave of SMU Construction
Logistically moving soccer is the only way we can have an IPF that is contiguous with the campus given the needed square footage.
Sorry I haven't responded earlier regarding the land expansion. I'm currently in Kansas City on a project. I haven't heard anything about the university buying land west of campus. East however we have bought (and are continuing to buy) land and properties.

I agree. It is going to be a shame to lose that "open" space where you get a nice view of Moody, Dedman, and Ford.deucetz wrote:Can someone please explain to me why the IPF should be built where the soccer stadium and track are currently located? I like the track and soccer location. I think putting an IPF will hurt the flow of the sports quad.
Why can't we build the IPF in the field at Pettus? Do we really need a IPF that mimics a full football stadium?
How much larger is the Westcott plot of land versus Pettus?

I know we're beginning to crowd out some spaces with all this new construction but I hope we never turn into a USC campus-like-environment when everything is literally on top of one another. Talk about impersonal & stone cold!!! Yuck!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Yes, but the girls riding their bikes with short dresses and nothing else underneath does make it interesting!NavyCrimson wrote:I know we're beginning to crowd out some spaces with all this new construction but I hope we never turn into a USC campus-like-environment when everything is literally on top of one another. Don't forget that HP has to approve all this stuff and they have people that call parking on the street "madness". It's easier to get a big square box built in the middle of campus in between a football stadium and a parking garage than on a nice corner across the street from the HP Methodist church.

Highland Park has zero say in this. Maybe you mean University Park? That is the city where the school is located. Highland Park is across the street.blackoutpony wrote:Don't forget that HP has to approve all this stuff and they have people that call parking on the street "madness". That said, important to get local constituencies on board whether they have formal veto power or not, so I agree with your point.

Can someone explain to me why we've been building everything but an ipf?

With JJ's lack of interest in recruiting, would an IPF really do any good? Hopefully we'll announce one along with the introduction of the next coach after the season.fifty wrote:Can someone explain to me why we've been building everything but an ipf?

I'm not sure putting the Playboy Mansion on campus would help JJ recruit. My total guess is that it will be added to the "package" to attract the next coach.PonySnob wrote:With JJ's lack of interest in recruiting, would an IPF really do any good? Which one. A Playboy Mansion or an IPF. Since we own the building where the Playboy Club was located, at what was Yale and Central; I think it is only fitting that we have a bunny hutch. Maybe where Perkins Nat is standing!CoxMustangFan wrote:I'm not sure putting the Playboy Mansion on campus would help JJ recruit. IPF is going where soccer is currently and soccer is going to Pettus. Expect an announcement with a lead donor we all know and love at some point later this year or early 2015. They'll break ground in summer of 2015 with a goal of completion for fall 2016.

Pettus would make for a pretty sweet place to watch a soccer match. Look good on tv too. Could we do lacrosse there too?
