Why would he have *just* added us to his list if we weren't more than a remote possibility?
Did he? (or did some blogger say he did?) Was he quoted directly?
Anyway, here's what I've seen of Turner:
1 - very long (very good for shot blocking/protecting the rim/catching balls up high like when trying to beat the press or catching/passing out of a high ball screen, etc)
2 - great shooter, especially for his size (good to stretch the defense but I want my 7 footer at the rim grabbing rebounds and blocking shots and putting back bunnies and tips) - this is probably his best asset and something SMU would value the most
3 - pretty decent ball handler, especially for his size (although the ball has a long way to travel from floor to his fingertips) - don't really want my 7 foot center bringing the ball up the floor though
4 - gets pushed around a lot
5 - looks very unstable/"hobbles" around a lot (would be very concerned about his durability)
6 - seems like a mature, smart young man (program can't have too many of these).
All in all, he seems extremely overrated. He looks like a deer growing into their new legs (which is the case for him since he had a late growth spurt I think). If he stays healthy and puts on another 20 pounds or so, I foresee him coming on later in his career. I just don't see the hype right now. Yes, he's 7 feet tall (that's great). Yes, he has a good shot and he seems very mature and smart. However, to me, he just looks like Yanick with a jump shot (which is a big improvement).
Again, I'd love to have him but won't cry when we don't get him and don't think he's really going to be a huge program changer anywhere (Kansas and Duke will both be very good without him --- Texas will suck either way).
