Spoiler alert: Lacrosse is getting a field of their own adjacent to the Bush Library.

Re: Next Massive Wave of SMU Construction
so if they move the soccer field, i hope they put up some nice seating. They should take a look at Creighton's and ND's soccer stadiums, have heard that both have one of the best collegiate soccer fields.
Anyknow know what will happen to the track field. not sure if there is enough room for both to be relocated.

I'd guess they sunk the field like Ford. Should look pretty good there.Mustangs_Maroons wrote:so if they move the soccer field, i hope they put up some nice seating. They should take a look at Creighton's and ND's soccer stadiums, have heard that both have one of the best collegiate soccer fields.

I really do hope the new soccer facility does not have a track. I assume it won't because of the space.

And the lacrosse field is going to have sufficient seating and amenities as if it were D-1, so draw your own conclusions.

Agree. I heard some nonSMU folk talking about how impressive it looks already. Appears to be high quality, like everything else.Stlhockeyguy02 wrote:The new tennis center is massive. Like woah. Makes a huge impression in its new location. Wow.

Has been casually talked about for 4-5 years. I think couch 'em posted some renderings that included it at one pointStallionsModelT wrote:Spoiler alert: Lacrosse is getting a field of their own adjacent to the Bush Library.

Hart has referred to the IPF as an IPC or Indoor Performance Center insinuating that they will put a track indoors around the football practice field. I'm sure others know more about this than I do.Mustangs_Maroons wrote:so if they move the soccer field, i hope they put up some nice seating. I know indoor and outdoor track are two different collegiate sports, so idk what this means for the program per se.

No Lacrosse/Field Hockey, puke, keep that [Deleted] in the N'EastStallionsModelT wrote:There are no plans for a baseball facility. The best (and most current) news on athletics facilities that I heard this week are the following:
- Natatorium to be built East of 75 at current site of SMU throwing field between Barley House and the SMU office complex. Look for this to break ground early in 2015 to be completed by 2016.
- Indoor Performance Center (IPF) for football and track at the current location of SMU soccer stadium. This too will likely break ground in early to mid 2015 and completed for 2016.
- Relocation of SMU soccer to Pettus. Same timeframe as Indoor Performance Center.
- Additional intramural field south of Bush Presidential Center. Speculation is this is SMU laying the groundwork for a lacrosse/field hockey program.
Those are projects that will be taking place in the near future. None of the folks I've spoken to have said anything about baseball.

There are some big donors that really want lacrosse as a D-1 sport so bet on it happening at some point.
The tennis facility is a game changer in respect to the look and feel of entering campus on Mockingbird.

Keep it in the Northeast? UT-Austin, A&M, and probably a few more Texas schools will soon be D1 in lacrosse. The sport is spreading like wildfire now throughout much of the south and especially in affluent areas and private schools. Lacrosse will give us greater exposure in the Northeast where we want to expand our prospective student footprint and provide us with another top notch sports program.
friar, have you heard when the Mockingbird retail center redesign is going to break ground? I've seen some renderings and they look fantastic. From what I remember the plan is to brick that entire shopping center from La Madeleine down to CVS in the traditional SMU Georgian brick style. The last I remember was that it would start at some point in the summer of 14.

Re: Next Massive Wave of SMU Construction
I have heard august on the re-fronting of the retail. No idea if true - but makes sense given the schedule of other buildings that are close to wrapping up.
