I'm really happy for these kids, especially #57 Jordan Miller, who came from a good private school program here in Atlanta. (Who is #57?) I don't understand the derision that is heaped on these walk on kids. They are the purest form of "scholar athlete." They are literally playing for the love of the game.
Here is an example of a walk on at a program that has waaayy more tradition than SMU:

Re: Congrats
Congratulations to all of these guys for earning scholarships. dirtysouthpony is exactly right. THey really are playing because they love the game. Some programs find real players from among their walk-ons with some regularity. These guys might not be stars, but they have worked hard and contributed. Good on them, and good on the coaches for rewarding them for their hard work.
