Am I wrong, or is Biden a complete hypocrit? Didnt he advise a democratic nominee not to answer questions on issues that might come before the court? As I remember he was shown on tape doing so very strongly. Now, this same guy is trying to chastise Roberts into doing so? Where is the common sense/shame?
Those things are always a circus. I think the republicans did the same thing to Ginsberg. The only way to depoliticize the federal judiciary is to make them elected positions, but that'll never happen.
its their constitutional duty to ask questions. Judicial nomination hearings have become a stupid POLITICAL exercise on both sides. The party of the nominee cries foul even if legitimate judicial questions are raised while the opposition cries foul because of an allarming tendency of the nominees to answer with POLITICAL answers. The truth is as usual somewhere in between. When its over he will most certainly be confirmed by a even a large number of Democrats. That is unless there are some salacious rumors of him as a modern day "Long Dong Silver"
It's virtually impossible to avoid answering the devisive issues, i.e., abortion, affirmative action, et al., but people need to realize that those are typically political answers, not legal answers. A Senator may not like to hear that stare decisis and respect for precedent will guide a candidate's approach to the next Roe v. Wade challenge, instead of a hard stance on abortion itself, but the candidate who is smart enough to give a legal answer is a good one, in my opinion.
I had the good fortune of having the flu during the Clarence Thomas hearings and got to witness the entire process. It was an unbelieveable process. I had never really watched them closely prior to that but it made these today look tame.

Or, term their appointment to say, 10 years max.
Regardless of party affiliation, how many of the current Justice's are fighting Alzheimer as we speak?

Should have seen the Bork proceedings. I've never witnessed anything more shameful in my life.
