Kind of sounds like whoever was over the NBA during those times must gave turned a deaf ear to that. Also, I hope he is not right when he said on the tape that currently black people are treated like dogs in Israel.

I see Sterling has already said he has no intentions of selling the team. Probably not a wise move as I would expect the Clippers roster to bail once their contracts are up and this franchise's value will really take a hit. I found the talk from the conspiracy theorists today rather amusing...something to the effect this is "Laker driven" as they are trying to eliminate the Clippers as competition in the L.A. market

Two points. Taping someone is not illegal. May or may not be allowed in court depending on the state. Second, I believe this was the 2nd time he was to receive an award from the NAACP, and the awards were based on large monetary donations, not actions.

I don't think they bail since he he banned from the league. Even if he were not they still would have a tough time walking away from the money if no one else could match. Reminds me somewhat of the Marge Schotz situation. I always thought that most extremely rich people that were racist were more covert and less open about it that this guy is.

California's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. California makes it a crime to record or eavesdrop on any confidential communication, including a private conversation or telephone call, without the consent of all parties to the conversation. See Cal. Penal Code § 632. The statute applies to "confidential communications" -- i.e., conversations in which one of the parties has an objectively reasonable expectation that no one is listening in or overhearing the conversation. See Flanagan v. Flanagan, 41 P.3d 575, 576-77, 578-82 (Cal. 2002). A California appellate court has ruled that this statute applies to the use of hidden video cameras to record conversations as well. See California v. Gibbons, 215 Cal. App. 3d 1204 (Cal Ct. App. 1989). http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/califor ... ording-law

Didn't someone say in another post that he knew he was being taped? Fooball wrote: According to ESPN sources, he knew he was being taped.
Regardless, it still doesn't change who he is or what he believes. That is the real issue.

Sterling will sell IMO. Public pressure is enormous- this guy really loved showing off the fact he owned an NBA team and could take his friends to games, sit courtside, etc. He's a pariah now, and no one wants anything to do with him. I think he sells team this summer. We'll see.

Yeah, I hadn't seen that in the media. But if he did, then he's a real moron

[quote="mrydel"I believe this was the 2nd time he was to receive an award from the NAACP, and the awards were based on large monetary donations, not actions.[/quote] So racially discriminatory behavior is OK, as long as you pay a tax for it? Seems like a poor precedent for the NAACP to set.

Not far to assume they did and rush to judgment on them at this time until someone can provide information that they did know. ECM, you think it is a bad as he says over in Israel?

Harry posted this earlier- I hesitate to link to Deadspin because they make a mockery of responsible journalism on a regular basis, but this piece adequately pieces together Sterling's deplorable history of racist remarks, so yeah, the NAACP should have know. http://deadspin.com/your-complete-quota ... 1568047212I have no clue about race relations in Israel.

Right, but just say we don't know if they follow deadspin or not. I certainly had not heard it before now. I also find it interesting that in the tape the thought he "gave" money, food, etc to black people for playing basketball for him. Basketball is their professional job so it was not charity unless he felt like he bought and viewed them as field slaves or something. Could be like Marge Schotts when she called Eric Davis and Dave Parker as "million-dollar n____ers."

Deadspin wasn't the only one reporting this stuff.

But a major question is that you have to wonder about David Stern and why he never took any action against Sterling if you are saying everyone knew about the earlier comments?
