MATT DAVIS: Feeling right at home

Post by PonyPride »

Quarterback Matt Davis visited with PonyFans.com to discuss why he chose to transfer to SMU, how the recruiting process was different the second time around, and his thoughts about facing his former Texas A&M teammates as a member of the Mustangs in 2014.

Sounds like a great kid. A few Aggies I spoke with about him said he's an awesome character guy who was really heartbroken it didn't work out in College Station. Hopefully he's able to help next season.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Great get. We need 5 per class then with a bunch of high 3 stars. Don't see why that's so difficult.

Nice article, thanks.

He sounds like he has his head on his shoulders and this signing obviously makes the fall a lot more interesing and potentially exciting.

At least we can confirm now that he's going to be a QB here. Perhaps GG's success running the ball has made June see the benefits of a QB with wheels...

The notion of having to compete with Burcham didn't make him quiver with fear?

According to the ponyboy crowd Burcham is the best QB ever at SMU and a future 1st round pick

Burcham is a good quarterback. Davis may be a great quarterback but I cannot imagine him meeting Jones' expectations with just the summer to prepare. Burcham will most likely start out #1 and I think he will do well. Davis may be the future. Who knows?

Well I believe they're both RS Sophomores this year so I don't know if Davis "is the future" if Burcham does well at QB to start the season.

FWIW I don't get all the hate on here for Burcham- I thought he played well considering he was thrown into the fray in the wake of GG's injury against USF yet helped seal a win there. Yes, he looked like a freshman against UH and played poorly that game on the road but I thought he rebounded to play well against UCF, and we had a good chance of winning that game if he doesn't get hurt. With a full spring and August practice to get ready for next season and acclimated with his WRs I don't see any reason why he can't be an effective QB for us in 2014.

Now I'll step aside and let the haterazzi bash me and call me a June apologist

There is also a difference in expecting to ride the bench the entire season versus being given the keys to drive at the beginning. Whole different attitude. Now we just need to see how he handles it. I am glad we have contenders and competition.

Haha. Thanks for the back up. Of course there is no link. I've just said he's a good quarterback that for some reason many have inexplicably written off.
