Are they putting in an option offense?

Their head coach is Bryan Harsin who was Texas' OC two years ago. It doesn't surprise me at all that he has had better luck recruiting Texas than June.

Apart from the obvious (they have a better team, better record over the last 10 years, better recruiting efforts, etc), they've also have had a kid recently drafted in the top two rounds by the cowboys in their last two drafts. that will only help their story in texas even more.

That Houston has more recruits is not a compliment it's more an indictment on our sorry state of recruitment under Jones.
Once we get a coach that gives a [deleted] we will blow Houston out of water bc there is no reason why it could conceivably be more appealing.

Re: WTF? Boise mid-major recruiting
well that's not true
for example-
they will have a better, more BCS ready football facility
a student body that is more diverse and in harmony with the type of kids we both recruit
a larger student enrollment that fits the profile of a BCS program
What's SMU's record against UH even under June Jones? Not good.

True, see SMU Basketball for details.

Re: WTF? Boise mid-major recruiting
Come on Stallion.
Admittedly, it was an exagerration when I said we would blow them out of the water with recruits if we had a HC and an aggressive recruiting team, but do you really think that if we had a HC that gave a damn about recruiting and put in a young aggressive team to recruit, that we couldn't at least split 50/50 the recruits if it came down to us and the Coogs?
The point is that we're in the same conference, but we are different in every other way and I don't think we can generalize their preferences. More importantly, if we feel that with the right coach in place we couldn't compete, then why do we give Jones such a hard time since this is in line with the pathetic excuse not to recruit, saying we wouldn't be successful anyways. we can't have it both ways. If he deserves the criticism, then that must mean we must believe we could win our share of recruiting battles against the likes of UH for instance.

Re: WTF? Boise mid-major recruiting
You said there was no basis for any recruit to pick UH or SMU. I just nailed 3 pretty damn important factors off the top of my head that many recruits would find more appealing at UH than SMU.
I truly believe the gap between SMU and UH in Football is really going to be obvious after this year. (Hell we've rarely beaten them in the past even with June Jones and UH playing in a high school stadium). A lot of SMU fans had fun laughing at their attendance last year when they were suffering from their vagabond schedule not unlike SMU BB in Garland. This year I look for them to approach 40,000 in attendance. I've always thought an on campus facility was exactly what that program needed to bring their alumni together.
I think schools like UH, USF and UCF have a huge advantage over SMU which really hasn't solved attendance problems in 50 years. SMU has to over-achieve to even be in the discussion-and I see no evidence SMU alumni are going to support the program Win-Lose-or Draw enough for SMU football to advance to a major conference. I think the usual SMU plan to buy our way into the Big Time is ludicrous especially with new NCAA legislation raising the cost of doing business. I think eventually UCF, USF and probably UH will make the jump. .

Where will they be jumping to exactly? Their options are jumping to another G5 conference or jumping to independence.

Re: WTF? Boise mid-major recruiting
Not anytime soon-eventually if 5 conferences survive. Probably not if its 4 X 16 survive which I've always said would happen. So they could get shut out. Sooner or later there is going to be an anti-trust lawsuit. You can't have 64 teams excluding all possible entrants into a market forever.

Re: WTF? Boise mid-major recruiting
With that statement alone, you are basically saying that I am right in that SMU needs to renovate Ford Stadium (40-45K) and build the IPF to make us BCS ready.Stallion wrote:well that's not true

You're right?
About what discussion we had?
Who the [deleted] are you again?
The only thing I'll say about you is that you are the biggest [deleted] ever to post on this board-and that you singlehandedly ruin it for many.
I've taken the position that the design of Ford was problematic from Day 1 if we wanted a future in Division 1A-but I understood the building restrictions involved
Ford was built to give SMU one of the best football facilities to compete in a low profile mid-major regional conference
UH and TCU built stadiums that could accommodate a Division 1A future.

If you would start reading my posts correctly without bias you would agree with a lot of what I say. In fact, East Coast Mustang has similar opinions to what I say, and I never see him get any crap/backlash from you or anyone here.Stallion wrote:You're right?

Stallion, I think FTHP is telling you, and everyone else, to quit picking on him.
