SMU- TULANEIS IT A MUST WIN OR NOT
Yes...it will be SMU's first win in C-USA. That's the way to start off in a new conference. Also, it will put SMU at 2-2 on the season for a .500 and put us at 1-0 in conference play. It will also bring another 'w' for the Mustangs at home which will hopefully bring more fans to Ford for the remainder of the season...provided, of course, that the Mustangs continue winning. It will keep the student body interested and excited and continuing to attend home games. It will also build upon the alumni interest that picked up after the TCU game. It will help the team's confidence after today's game against aTm.
In a word...yes.
I'd say it's a "need to win game" but I won't call it a "must win" -- simply because it's against Tulane. There is no way to guess what kind of emotion those guys will have. I agree with the assessment that those guys could come in to Ford either sky-high or completely flat. We sure need a win, but this is a very dangerous game.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
No doubt this is an important game.
Win and you are competitive in somewhat weak C-USA west, where everyone sans UTEP has a losing record. Lose and you likely go 1-5 with a game against ECU in front of 9k fans and the very real prospect of another 2 or 3 win season. Other ramblings: PB is now 1-18 in road games. I thought one of SMU’s selling points to Jessie Henderson was the chance to play RB; given his touch to fumble ratio, that is a scary proposition. MM65, your teams lost by a combined 146-29…Ouch!!
Is it a deeply needed win? Yes.
Can they do it? Probably not. I like Romo, but he doesn't have receivers out there catching. As for the running game, I don't think it's going to work on Tulane. They'll jam the middle, which will force the Ponies to the air, where they can't go anyways. Tulane: 35 SMU: 10
Yes, it is a must win if we have any hope for a winning season or more. Lose this game, and it becomes very difficult.
Win this game, and we have confidence going into a game at Marshall, against a team not as good as Tulane. lose this game, and we are looking at 0-3 in conference, with major confidence issues and all momentum lost from the TCU game. Bennett has said before that this is a team with poise and maturity. It is time to step up and show that this week and this weekend.
Threw the ball pretty well against the Aggies (although you're right, the receivers need to be better). And with all due respect, I don't know if Tulane can stuff the run quite like A&M did. SMU 27 Tulane 23
agree with corso hundy percent. A&M had some monstrous boys in the middle, demyron didnt have much of a chance or time to find any creases. the running game will definately be more successful against the green wave. passing game will be used more effectively as well, look for bchase to have a monster day.
Yes.
Also, very winable. Tulane has not had much success lately. I think some on this board are overrating them. Look at the Miss State team they came close to beating. Not a very good team is all I'm saying. The A&M game is to blame if we lose here. Very poor scheduling. If we had a patsy to destroy on Saturday we would be riding high. Instead we are battered and bruised physically and mentally.
