TCU not a fluke....

TCU was not a fluke. We are going to do well in conference play. We are going to go .500 this year.

No idea what happened to our D in the second half. They let one touchdown and then they quit. Absolutely quit.

I am just as pissed off as everyone (and sunburned) but I am still up on this team and you should be to (except for special teams!)

I think yesterday just needs to be put out of our minds.

We played well in the 1st half and just stopped playing come the 2nd half. Dunno what happened and dont really care. We need to focus on our game vs Tulane and our conference opener.

"They just quit" is just a rationalization because you don't want to admit that we were physically outmanned and outplayed at every single position yesterday. Texas A&M made some great plays yesterday and they had some great athletes make great plays. When 4.3 athletes make plays against teams with little or no quality depth and against a first string that simply can not match up physically or athletically then its going to get real ugly real early. SMU has maybe 2-3 players who would make A&M's regular line-up and I might be stretching that.

Where we let them get behind us that may have been a scheme or a matchup issue as you say. The think that seemed "quit" was the failure to tackle.

It was interesting to note several of the blow outs yesterday. Rice for example was never in the game with Texas. Not for one minute. At least Texas had the class to put backups in early instead of trying to pad Heisman numbers. :roll:

Watching it on TV, I got more of the impression that they were outmanned. That #11 was like a bowling ball and our guys were just too tired (or heat exhausted) to bring him down. It took 3-5 guys just to tackle him. That's strength and fresh legs and skill vs. small and tired legs. McNeil is the real deal. He was accurate with his passes, fast when he scrambled and powerful enough to shed tacklers. Their wideouts certainly had speed to separate from our safeties. In the second half, they had the second string in which was better than our first string, and they just kept pounding us. I don't think we quit so much as we were outgunned and tired.

I agree. It was cool that our guys hung in with them as long as we did, but to throw a 235-pound (at least) freshman in there against a worn-out defense .... that's rough.

Tulane's RBs aren't that big, are they? We do OK against the little guys, but big RBs like Lane (A&M) and Mosley (baylor) are tough to handle in the second half.

Monday morning.... SMU is not as good as we thought and not as bad as we looked against A$M.

SMU played hard and I saw some good plays and fight against the Aggies.

DAM the punt blocks. Dam the pass drops. Dam the pentalties.

IF, IF, IF, that is what we have right now. Young hard working guys that are ( in my mind ) turning the corner, and want to win.

Remember when you were 14 and tried to beat up the bully in high school. He kicked your butt. But before he graduated you came back and whooped him. It is all about growing up.

SMU should focus on getting better tackling, catching and PLEASE do something about the punt blocking.

actually when I was fourteen and tried to beat up the bully he did kick my butt, but before I could get my revenge, he got drunk/high at a party passed out, someone called the ambulance, and while they were transporting him to the hospital he went nuts got up out of the gurney and jumped out the back of the ambulance onto the highway while traveling 60 mph, he died. I think we all did some growing up that day.

The guy I was talking about ended getting a scholorship to OU for football. During his Sophmore year he was shot and killed doing a drug deal.

Bottom line is... this team is getting better and with guys that I think are good people.

my random thoughts....stupid mistakes (ball in romo's left hand, blocked punt, etc) were hard to bear but the first two quarters showed the best smu team we've seen in years. A&M's a lot better than people think. fran's been stockpiling that team with real talent for a couple of years and he's a great coach. don't forget that we consistently moved the ball with our passing game - the last time that happened was during the rossley years. running game was ugly but it's much harder to run block than pass block when you're physically outmatched like our o line was; athletic big guys are the hardest ones to get and we'll get them only after we win some games. definitely some good coaching in some aspects of the team. much like in the Baylor game, our D was worn out early which I think lead to some of the poor tackling. we've got D1 talent at most of the skill positions, very encouraging. take a few mistakes away and that game was just like Baylor for 2.5 quarters...we would have been ahead for those 2.5 quarters with a much bigger/stronger/faster team taking for the last quarter and a half. it just started a little earlier this week. unfortunately it got ugly fast but everyone should be encouraged...i like what bennett's doing. i'd insist on taking bill snyder's philosophy and load down the early season with patsies. forget the money and let's start out with Texas State, Sam Houston, etc. i'd prefer to get W's & confidence, upgrade when you start winning

I think the moral of our stories is that you shouldn't be a bully cause you will die a horrible death, be it from jumping out the back of an ambulance, or being shot in a drug deal.
