Maybe so, but Dallas isn't one of those areas. The Rangers became trendy when the steroid guys made the team decent by hitting a dozen HRs a night. The recent years of getting close to winning have made it hip, but just like the Stars, who now play to half-empty arenas, when the Rangers fall off, so will their attendance.

Bring back track. For the purpose of Title IX, a women's sport will have to be added, and what that would be is anyone's guess. But wasn't there some talk a few years ago about a bowling team? Several schools have added a bowling team, and you have to think it's a cheap sport to support.

I think we should concentrate on football and basketball before adding other sports, unless a lead donor wants to foot the bill for the whole thing.

Remember to add baseball you need to either dump a men's sport or add 1.5 women's sports due to Title IX. Thus, even if we wanted baseball, we'd have to add a large women's sport like softball or lacrosse and a small women's sport like shooting or bowling. So, which men's sport do you want to dump? Swimming or soccer? If not, then which women's sports do you want to add. So, if you add baseball and 10 scholarship players, then you need to add 15 women's scholarships in new sports approximately. Let's see 25 scholarships at $40,000 is $1 Million per year. Then you have coaches salaries, travel, equipment, uniforms, and a place to play. Those cost money. Let's say that's another $1 Million conservatively. So, to just have a team without an on campus facility would require an endowment of at least $25 Million. Then you'd need to fund a place to play the games another $10 Million. So, you'd need about $40 Million to be safe to fund baseball.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Lacrosse is a fringe sport if I've ever seen one, even when UNC plays UVA there are tons of empty seats in the stadium. Anyone who says baseball is a dying sport needs to look at ratings, sure SMU had bad fan support before but that was before the DART and liquor sells. You field a decent baseball team inside the loop with dollar dog and dollar beer Tuesdays the people will come! There's plenty of room on the side streets off of airline, they bought those houses and tore them down for the new whatever center that is going in there.

I'm just gonna say this. I live in Birmingham and have attended at least part of 12 baseball games since Tuesday... college baseball is a thing of beauty. I'm sunburned, exhausted, and having the time of my life at the SEC baseball tournament. If we fielded a D1 baseball team, our fanbase would get hooked.

Based on the SEC? We actually had a team, and proved we would not support it.

I still can't believe UNT is getting a baseball stadium/team and we're getting a top 100 list.

The popularity of college baseball today is greater than it was in the mid-70's. As well, SMU has changed quite a bit since then!

Totally agree it has changed. Support overall is less than the past. When we had baseball, the Rangers came to town. Baseball enthusiasm was high. Still no more than 100 at the games.

I have to agree to a point. Armstrong field, located where the current track and soccer field is located, was embarrassing. Revershon Park was not much better since it was so far off campus, no one would drive to the games. It did not help the baseball program was pretty bad.
Maybe SMU could hire Tommy Lasorda to revive the program
