But can he play solid at the next level?

Just because ET plays good def in HS does not mean it will translate. He went to so many SMU games that I would have assumed we would not be cut out of his remaining 5. LB and company did this for a reason.

Ok, yes, we have two REALLY good players in commitments and it is still very early. But SMU sports is one area of my life where sensationalism is allowed. There is no room for being pragmatic.

How do we allow ET to get away (I mean not being in rumored 3 leading schools)? I am not buying SMU is looking elsewhere, he is a local guy and top 10 recruit. Also, any more national recruits that will blindside me with a commitment (e.g. Barefield)?

I hope we get another high profile local guy before said and done.

First, ET will be fine at the college level. Second, you know exactly what's going on between Larry Brown/staff and prospective recruits? But, if it makes you feel better. Elijah was wearing an SMU sweatshirt yesterday.

It is still early. Remember how sudden the Mudiay shift was. Not to mention the more recent McQuaid swing. Besides we will still hopefully have a decent amount of returning talent. I do love your disappointment with a class with 2 4stars in its infancy. It means the expectations and actual situation has shifted.

It's just that SMU looked to be in good shape to land a few of the local good ones. If ET goes to UNLV (AG, too?), Hogg and Davis to Baylor, then it appears they'll have to fill 5+ from outside of Dallas. I would imagine they planed to fill 2+ with transfers, but that leaves at least three that could be below the D kids. I think all will work out fine, it's just a bit surprising.

With this, don't be surprised if a Panic thread makes its return by yours truly.....

The amount of time for a thread to evolve is comically short. Take what I said at face value. No I do not know, but I used very general logic to describe the most likely scenerio. It is not like every young athlete in DFW all of the sudden said "OMG! SMU's program is about to explode. They will be a legit threat for years to come. We should all go to UNLV and Baylor!"

As I read this thread again... what it says is amazing. Not only have we shifted from previous recruiting expectations. We have shifted so far that now we expect to sign those high profile individuals.

For the record, I agree with both of you. I am trying to put faith in a coaching staff regarding recruiting whom has given us no reason not to. I am trying something new... JJ still has a strong effect after all of these years.

I'm still cautiously optimistic, I mean with Mudiay you are possibly getting a once in maybe 5-10 yr. player. We were able to bring his brother in, he comes from a unique family and background with strong roots in Dallas.

I want to see if we can keep getting the local cream of the crop, and I'd like to see it happen in 2015 to validate that we can do it consistently

This is redundant, but if SMU wants a "good" big man, Davis is the man to get. He is
much better than Thomas.

It is redundant. And I think SMU would be happy with either Thomas or Davis. . . End of redundancy.
