Or perhaps even worse- just throwing out a bunch of offers and then when the recruits don't sign he can say that he tried but his old method worked better. Guess signing day will be the proof of the pudding.

This is, quite sadly, my best guess as to what's go im on. "But mr hart, I offered all these highly rated kids with 37 offers and none of them came to SMU. See, I told you our showers didn't have to right type of shampoo dispensers. And you thought I was crazy when I complained about the lack of a monorail between Ford and Hughes-Trigg. And you know that receivers can't cut properly because of how much rubber is in Fords field turf. I can't win without these things!"

If you had the regular hostesses that are used to this type of environment, SMU would get better recruits.

This renewed recruiting effort happened way too late to be a factor with legit 2015 players. At this point the only kids we have a real shot with are the ones no one else wants (just like the last few classes).

As for the increased recruiting activity not impacting the 2015 class, I don't believe that at all. I think there are many good prospects that don't know what they are going to do, and SMU is in the mix with many of them. Will it make a bigger impact a in 2016 or 2017 - absolutely. But that does does not mean we can not get a class that is a substantial upgrade over the past couple of years. If out of what might be a pretty small recruiting class (I hope it is because if it is not, it is because a lot of our present guys are not doing things at a high level) we have 4-5-6 players that are substantially better than what we have recently had, that would be good. Not great, but good.

We do this every year and we always end up with prospects that have few to no offers. There has been no indication that we'll do better this year. When you see several legit P5 prospects saying that SMU is recruiting them harder than anyone then you'll know things have changed.

I think your sense of when these offers went out is when you learned of them not when the recruit actually received them. Maybe the reporting was behind on these in some cases. Red -- that's a silly argument. Ok, so if a local kid commits elsewhere, you all would be pissed off and say, "Where were we? Why didn't we offer?" But if we offer, now the argument is, "Well you're too late. You didn't offer when the kid was 10 and so there's no point of even hoping to get him.''' You see my point, here? I'm not pointing out one recruit in particular. It's just everything in general. It really doesn't matter what this staff does. The gang of 30 will always find an excuse to shoot it down, minimize it or just contradict it because God help them if this staff started actually doing something the right way. They'd lose their argument. In fact, I can see this little group being unnerved because offers are out (something you guys have been screaming about for year) but now that they are out, you're looking for a reason to get pissed off. Really?

Easy to make offers......have to work to get the commitments.

You probably need to sit this one out because you have been struggling with recent posts.

Look it does matter when offers go out. Got it? SMU was last out of the chute among Texas schools I posted those numbers.

So is SMU too late with its 2016 offers, sir?
And you of all people should know that potentially 1/3 of the listed offers for 2015 kids are no longer valid because either A) the school filled the position with somebody else B) The kid may try to commit but the school but the staff may slow play him for whatever reason. C) The kid never considered certain offers because he was not interested to begin with -- no matter the timing of the offer.
Timing is an important factor. It's not the only factor.

How many offers are to the texas top 100? how many to the DFW area top 100?
If we're going to point to large number of offers as a sign of improvement, I'd like to see quality as well before I can agree with that.

So now this class has 2 3-star kids and 1 2-star who could move up (of course, the 2 3 stars could move down) in future ratings. We'll see how this goes.
