If you think the lunch is on Tuesday and were planning ot go, then you will be disappointed.

Why would anyone want to go to a lunch to listen to the coaches make excuses or state the obvious on why we failed to field a competitive team...again! They should offer a free lunch to the few almuni who actually follow SMU football after the A&M performance. Should A&M beat SMU? Absolutely. Should they embarress us more than a decade after the death penalty? No. Bennett better win Saturday. If he doesn't my thread begins again about new head coaches. I am sick and tired of pathetic, uncompetitive football. I am also amazed at all of the posters on this board who have a loser mentality and make excuses for this athletic program.

Clearly, I am not a sunshiner, but I enjoy them and wish I could make it to more of them. I am not saying you would get something out of it and I am not saying you would not. However, I don't know anybody that left a "Coffee with the Coach" and thought it was a waste of their time.

I know that I, for one, wish I could make the lunches. I usually can't get out for a long enough lunch to make it. I appriciate that the coaches and the school make that stuff available to us.

Did Bennett seem frustrated, disappointed? What is the mood generally?

he was definitely disappointed and offered up his thoughts on what happened although I would not say he was making excuses. He said our lack of depth was a big factor, especially considering the heat and the athleticism and size of their players. (I was there and can honestly say it was one of the hottest games I have ever attended. At one point there were so many fans being carted off by medical personnel that they ran out of carts and I saw 4 or 5 corp members carrying folks.) He was frustrated with our mistakes, especially dropped balls that were on the money and the lack of tackling. Per Bennett, Nnabuife got a stinger on the 3rd play from scrimmage and that hampered him the rest of the game. If you recall, he had McNeal wrapped up but could not bring him down. Result - 60+ yd TD run. Bennett became very animated when special teams play came up and basically said it will change or he will fire someone. He acknowledged that Ryan holds the ball too long sometimes but he only held the ball on the blocked punt for 2.0 seconds (which is acceptable) but someone missed a block. Bennett gave the order to pull almost all of the starters when the score got to 38 to keep the starters from getting injured and to get everyone else in the game for experience.

It was obvious we were outsized - you could see it if you were paying attention. I am as frustrated as everyone else but considering we played fewer players and were smaller, it's admirable that we competed with these guys until a few minutes before halftime. Had we not made a few mental mistakes (no missed block assignment on blocked punt, catch numerous dropped passes in 1Q, QB and receiver on same route, etc.), the score at half could have been very close and we might have even had the lead. The final score would probably have still been pretty ugly for the reasons mentioned above though.

We are getting better. Our guys are bigger, faster and stronger. We are still making a lot of mental mistakes and that is coaching if you ask me. Bennett acknowledges this and hopefully he is focusing on this and working to improve that part of our game.
