SMU offers FW All Saints 2016 DT Michael Williams

Post by B1GPonyFan »

Well, you might as well throw your hat in there and see what happens because just about everybody else is going to. Hey, if you don't do it, you don't know either.

Call me old school but I'd rather pick up a couple of stud DTs than skill players at this point. Would love a roster of 4-5, old school 6'4" / 330 pound bruisers w quick feet full of nasty.

Would be great if we could recruit all of the above

After making that statement, I checked our CURRENT roster. Here's what I see . . .

- Darrian Wright (at 6'2" and 285 a little undersized but seems pretty athletic. I like him but he needs to grow 2 inches and add 30 pounds of muscle. :-))
- Jerry Saena (certainly has the size and I like his comments but very unproven -- assuming very raw but he should be in the rotation)
- Zelt Minor (a little undersized at 6'3" and 275 but I think he has the potential to be a stud - needs to really bulk up IMHO - certainly has the athleticism)
- Spencer Hollie (NOW we're talking. Ideal size, but I know nothing about him other than that. If anything like his dad, he should definitely be in the rotation - does he have the motor/nastiness/competitiveness?)
- Elie (a little light at 6'4" and 262 but got good experience last year and seems to be a GREAT kid. does he have the nasty and strength and the frame to put on another 20-30 pounds of muscle?)

In conclusion, it's not bad but very young and unproven. If we had been recruiting 3-4 each year we wouldn't be in this situation, but I'll stop as we all know this already.

That's about it.

Zelt Minor is a DE, not a DT. He has great size for his position and will be a star.

Zelt Minor and Elie Nabushosi both are defensive ends.

Yes, I said he has the potential to be a stud. He will most likely, I'm assuming, play DE here more than DT but he's really an interior lineman IMHO. Same goes for Elie.

I believe Mason said when Zelt was first recruited that he could grow to 300 lbs and play either end or nose.

In passing situations where you're maybe only rushing 3, putting him in the middle makes a lot of sense

UUUHhhhhh, Aaron Donald is a DT and is the same weight and one or two inches smaller than Wright. His size doesn't seem to be a concern for the Rams who drafted him 13th in the most recent draft. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/ ... id=2543485

UUUHhhhhh, there are always outliers. Donald also runs a 4.68 forty. So, good for him. I hope Wrights gets drafted also at 13th next year.
