Great place to watch football!

Postby Pack66Dad » Mon Nov 04, 2002 4:26 pm

Your campus is beautiful. I was totally amazed at your stadium. My wife and I walked all around it and I must say it is hands down the finest college football facility I have ever seen.

The only suggestion I would make is you should look at making it more accessable. The empty parking lots all around the stadium that nobody can park in seemed kind of silly.

Thanks Pack66Dad. We are proud of our new stadium and look forward to the day we can put a team on the field that will bring in enough fans every game to fill the stadium up. Not sure what empty parking lots you are refering to. Obviously the little shopping center lot on the SE side of the Stadium is off limits. Probably what looked like empty lots were actually paid for parking for season ticket holders....many of whom (unfortunately) don't come to the games any more because of our poor record. The lot on the north side where I park was full although a lot of the spaces were filled with student's cars which are actually suppose to be parked elsewhere on game day.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

It's sad that we have such a great facility and we can barely attract 10,000 fans. It's surprising especially with the population of Dallas and the amount of alumni in the area. It's disheartening. I hope by the time I graduate I can come back as an alumnus and cheer for the Mustangs in a packed stadium!

Thanks, Pack66Dad. You didn't have to come back and say all that, but it's appreciated - we're very proud of our beautiful stadium. I drive up from Waco (about 90 minutes) for every home game, and will continue to do so. It's the perfect place to spend a Saturday watching our Ponies.

Nice call on the parking. You can't park behind the dorms right next door, and you can't park in the little shopping center. I guess you can't charge for parking there or something....

Good luck to you, your family and the Wolf Pack.

Thanks Pack66dad! Its a Wonderful place to be now the only thing I need when driving back home for 2 hours after a watching a SMU football game is to be happy with a win! Hopefully by the time I get to college we'll be a top NCAA team again!

Go Mustangs!

Ford Stadium is truly a wonderful facility...probably the best in the country for a stadium it's size. It won't be complete, however, until it REGULARLY houses 30,000 plus for every Mustang home game. If we can ever get there, SMU will once again be an attractive conference mate for whoever we might be playing against.
