Some people are saying Tolbert is eligible immediately (i.e. that the NCAA accepted his transfer due to his family situation). Still seems early, but curious if anyone else heard this. Sorry to derail the thread a little.

No ruling yet. Tolbert is still waiting on the NCAA's decision. However, he is able to practice with the team as long as he's enrolled in class.

Right again. He is in class, and therefore can practice, but a ruling has not yet been made, and no timetable for a ruling has been established.

There is optimism, or maybe "hope" is the better word, but with the NCAA, nothing is official until it's officially announced.

Look for a ruling in October on Tolbert IF SMU has submitted the paperwork

Sorry to continue derailment, but I think with Martin on board now, it might work out better for us in the long run if Tolbert isn't eligible this year. With soooooo many seniors graduating, 2015 will be a very young year and it would benefit us to have another stud senior around to ease the transition.

I disagree. we're poised to make a deep run in the real tourney this year assuming no major injuries, and Mudiay lives up to expectations. we all know there is a 'reset' coming in '15 with 7 or 8 new players coming in. with that many 'ships to give, i expect 2 or maybe 3 either JuCo or graduate transfers like Martin. that's where the experience will come from.

we want tolbert NOW. he gives us insurance in the front court to keep Markus fresh, or god forbid, markus get hurt he gives us some muscle. our depth last year kept the team fresh through the end of games. we are looking at basically having 10 players capable of starting. Pick your top 5 at their positions, and i would wager that the next 5 would be ranked at least 5th in the conf on their own (behind our starting 5, Uconn, Cincy & Memphis)

N. Moore
Frazier
Kennedy
Tolbert
Martin
Cunningham
Yannic
Sterling

So deep it's hard to keep track -- Ben Moore is missing.

Not just deep, 12 deep.

yeah, ben moore too. just an oversight on my part trying to list everyone.

clearly SMU isn't the place you go if you just want minutes and to get numbers. you come to SMU to learn from LB and WIN as a team.

I'd rather have Tolbert redshirt. There is no all in for any season, this is a program. Making a run this year goes for naught if we miss next year. Tolbert is a hoss that helps get us in next year.

not disagreeing that it's all for naught if we don't make it next year, but a) there's no guaranty we make it this year - i want all available weapons in the event of injury and b) we will be returning N.Moore, Markus (hopefully), Sterling, Frazier & BMoore. plus who's to say there isn't another grad transfer like Martin next year? that happened when? April of this year? May? LB will most likely start exploiting the graduate transfers in addition to Jucos that we aren't aware of. and freshmen can be impactful in NCAA hoops too.

i want as much depth as possible this year and every year. 2015 is already going to be somewhat of a reset, and we all expect that with 50% turnover, but we will have some experienced starters at the helm that will have 3 years in the system.

I'm with Hoop.
Let's have Tolbert red shirt this year and provide adult supervision to the young players next year. We will need a seasoned veteran to show the young players how to play college ball.

I agree w/ the camp that thinks an NCAA denial of Tolbert's waiver request could be a blessing in disguise.

Still very deep in the frontcourt for 14-15:

Yanick/Cannen/Markus/Ben/Martin

Three (or four, if MK shows out and declares) of those could be gone next year.
