you'll have to explain to me when Red Jesus was a college coach in any capacity.

I think there is a realization amongst the 4-5 big buck guys that matter that it is time for a young fire eater to take the helm.

i just want to have realistic expectations so we aren't crushed next spring when SMU announces that it's hiring Yale's former tight ends coach to replace june.

I like the mad scientist approach. It's a lot of fun. Good article and good publicity.

What would be fun is winning a game against an old SWC foe every other year or so, and ending up in a meaningful bowl. Neither of those things can happen until we recruit better, which isn't going to happen under this regime.

Bring on the fire-breather. Captain no-pulse isn't working.

Huh? I realize how thinking outside the box might make small minds uncomfortable, but where did I ever suggest mediocrity was acceptable?

He's not a no-pulse guy. He's just wierd, unconventional. Been outstanding for the school in the time he's been here.

But agreed we need to move on unless something changes dramatically on the talent acquisition front. Basketball -- DONE. Let's now turn all those enormous resources and efforts to football, the bigger sport.

What enormous resources? Are we still talking about SMU?

You guys do realize we lucked into Coach Brown, despite our best efforts to the contrary, right? Sure we threw resources at upgrading Moody, but that had been on the drawing board for what, a decade or more?

Also, there is no guarantee that the CoC will PonyUp for a marquis "name" coach again. I would love it if that were true. And that may be the case, but if it is, it's not a rumor I've heard.

And if we have to settle for a 'second class' coach why do we think we belong in 'big time fball' any longer. Can you say ' Div. II?

Chances are that this will be our last opportunity to impress those who may expand their P5 conferences in the future. IMO downgrading our coaching etc. will not move us up. Surely the LB success should prove that top quality coaches and commitment to the program can build winners and fill empty seats.

Hell naw. Its NEVER happening in football, even w/a fire breather who recruits. The landscape pretty much won't permit it. We had a window in hoops we've seized, but that dies when LB retires, cause Jank has no history at this level. You pocket your resources for a potential Jank buyout

He certainly hasn't been outstanding versus legit competition.

He's taken us to levels that we had not seen in a couple of three decades. Never said we were a legit threat to any real team under JJ.

Sure am glad it isn't any of my money involved in paying him 2 million a year for that. Being better than we were for the previous twenty years is a pretty low bar to jump. Shouldn't take 2 million a year to just jump it a bit. If it was any of my money I would be expecting a hell of a lot more than what we have gotten.

He would probably be a good offensive coordinator, but he is not so good a head coach. There is a whole long list of things a head coach has to be focused on with recruiting being at the top of the list. The Head Coach is an administrator first and is responsible for the program. If the program isn't going where it needs to go, then it's the HC's problem to solve and if he can't solve it he needs to be replaced...just like any manager in any company would be. Seven years should have been plenty of time to get the job done.

That's my two cents worth.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
