SID, how many season tickets have been sold?

Post by SmooBoy »

I realize the mini plans affect what's being sold. I'm more interested in full season tickets.

The bigger question is how many of those 13k will actually show up for the conference games?

Well we still have over a month until our first home game so maybe that figure will continue to climb.

wells over 12k... on the way to over 13k. Does not include mini packages.

The goal is to sell 20k tickets to each game.

What's the real goal in terms of butts in seats? 10K?

Too many variables right now to predict that but I will take a shot:

A&M - 35K
TCU - 32K
Cincy - 18K
Memphis - 12K
USF - 12K
Houston - 16K

Average = 20.8K

that's aggressive for Houston. that day after thanksgiving day game is usually pretty sparse.

Yeah you're probably right. That game might mean something (bowl eligibility and a potentially Top 25 team in Houston) so maybe the casual fan will turn out if the weather is nice.

Don't we do well on Homecoming? USF. That seems a bit low. Let's beat the OOC teams and there will not be a problem.

Cincy may be ranked by the time we play them...could be a better draw than 18K. Maybe 20-22k if it's nice out. Again, this will all depend on how we do our first 4 games. If we are 3-2 before cincy game, I could see 20K at least.

Yeah like I said too many variables to accurately predict that yet. If we start off 0-4 (potentially 0-5) then Ford will be a graveyard the rest of the season. You might see less than 8K in the stands for that final UH game and JJ's swan song back to the islands.

UH is a graveyard no matter what, especially considering we will have an awful record by then.
USF is homecoming and will do OK, so 15k.

To get into the MOB, students will need to attend some football games. I don't think this will greatly change attendance, but at least we will be growing some die hard fans during the normally empty October games. As Larry Brown has shown with basketball, the real cure is winning.

Cincy has #5 Ohio state and Miami before us, so if they come in ranked that would be great for the conference, but I wont hold my breath. Houston could be ranked only if they are undefeated, they have a weak OOC, and only two challenges before us: BYU and UCF. It is a shame the UH SMU is not a bigger rivalry, but given half our students are from out of state, I can see how they don't see a rivalry with an academically poor state school they have never heard of before. If we get to play Navy when they join, that could give a good conference attendance bump based on past attendance.

I try to look more at the average conference attendance instead of OOC, since OOC attendance can easily be bumped up by adding a Big 12 or SEC school. As we all know Dallas loves winners, and SMU needs wins, if we are ever going to bump up attendance. Most of the AAC teams do not generate interest on their own. It will be tough to gain attention given the onslaught SMU faces in OOC.
