Baylor goes for two to tie the game with 12 seconds remaining. Yenga knocks the pass out of the receiver's hands. SMU wins.

i am surprised the way you have been talking, would have thought you'd say closer. Preston was in 2 yrs ago by end of 3rd if I recall. His only action as a Mustang right?JasonB wrote:I don't know if we have enough threats at receiver to keep PB from blitzing us all game long. Which probably means a lot of Line, which probably means lack of another playmaker.
59-17 Baylor. Defense slows Baylor down a little bit at first, offense can't make enough plays to sustain long drives.
Failure in special teams (bad punts) allows Baylor to play on a short field starting in the second quarter, and the Baylor offense starts to hit it's stride.
Insertion of Matt Davis at the end of the third and more Pope because PB backs off the blitz slows the game down and keeps it under 60.

JasonB made me think of something I hadn't considered before. Bennett, our last head coach, was a defensive mind who now runs the Baylor defense. And of course JJ was hired for his offensive prowess. It'll be fascinating to see how they prepare for each other. The irony.
Re: Official: SMU vs. Baylor Thread
Baylor only has 1 returning starter in their secondary. And they lost their best pass rusher. I think we will put up some good numbers on them.

The current Baylor team was better than the 2012 version and the current SMU team is worse than the 2012 version. Why would it turn out any better?

I would say the other way around. GG was a monumental piece of .... Total bust.

Baylor also lost their top RB.

Baylor will be the toughest game we play this year...look at the bright side. We keep it close or beat them and there's a chance we may win more than 8 or 9 this yr

14 even the first half..Gresham and Pope run 150 yards combined in the first half alone...second half we pull away from an overly emotional and exhausted baylor defense to start a Neal led passing attack...put up 5 TDS in the air in the 2nd half.
I actually feel good about this one. Hope I am right. GO MUSTANGS!
Isn't Gresham out with a knee injury and possibly going to be redshirted?

Baylor is the best team by far that we will play all season. Young players, decent number of players with their first start, on the road to open a stadium. That isn't a great first game for anyone
.
Burcham knows the offense better than GG did the last time we were down there. We will be better at QB and Oline than last time, and better in the secondary. But I think they are a really, really good team. and I don't know if we have enough playmakers at WR to take advantage of an inexperienced secondary.
I also wouldn't discount special teams. A lot of times you stay in the game mentally and physically and then have that shanked 20 yard punt...
