Bennett in DMN: SMU Appeared a "Step Slow"oh really? Well here is an idea that will make SMU a step fast---replace all the walk-ons running 4.6s and put in the athletes who run 4.4 or better. Seriously, there is no excuse now not to get these young guys in the lineup somewhere somehow like Henderson, Turner, Devin Lowery, and Columbus Givens. Sorry but not only did SMU look a step slow-many of the starters ARE A STEP SLOW!
how in the hell did we beat tcu and get [deleted] pounded by tulane and a&m? i saw the game and what are team did to the frogs, whytf can't they do that day in and out? if i was dd or boof, i'd start screamin at the entire offense right about now...or just scream at ol' rusty and/or phil.
TCU was obviously a fluke. It had much more to do with TCU's slump after a big OU win than anything SMU was able to pull together that night.
Exactly right JT. Also they were looking forward to Utah on Thursday. We were simply a small bump in the road to them. They didn't seem to have any kind of coherent game plan for us. Our guys were fired up for that game but TCU was completely flat also.
TCU may have overlooked us, but come on guys...you saw that game, right? That was a different SMU team than we've seen in the other games. B*A*L*L*S TO THE WALL that nght. These guys have some talent...as Stallion says...just need to get the right guys on the field. We should be able to compete with several teams on the remaining schedule. Whether we will obviously remains to be seen.
FLUKE?????????????????
Sorry, I try not to get too emotional here, but: [1] TCU beats Utah with an illegal pick on the last pass play in OT. Announcers & ESPN highlights showed it repeatedly. [2] The most loyal Purple Frog knows Rodgers was fumbling as he went into the endzone against BYU. From the photo of the DMN, the damn ball is coming loose as his front foot & entire body lunges at the 1 yd line. 2 correct calls and they're f$$$ing 1-3. YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Yes. Look at Baylor, A&M and Tulane games and decide otherwise, and you will lose all credibility. Just like most, including me, lost when we thought things were looking up after TCU.
Nope. But our win over them was not a fluke. We beat them, they didn't just roll over. We blocked, allowing DeMyron Martin room to run, and the defense smacked Tye Gunn all day (and it didn't hurt that Lonta Hobbs got banged up.) They weren't at full strength, and we played a terrific game. Sure, maybe TCU had a bad game, but they're not that great, either. If we played again, of course I'd bet on the little froggies after our performance Saturday. But if we played every game like we played against them, we're talking about being 3-1, too. We have more talent than we've had in the past. Now we need to muster some consistency -- from game to game, from play to play -- to go with it.
And some blocking on offense and special teams would help, too. So, now that that's out of the way .... BEAT MARSHALL!
Wrong, JT. Best team won_ TCU beat OU on THAT day... SMU beat TCU on THAT day. The deserving teams won (both times). You're showing you Purple stripe, otherwise.
I beg to differ...Our WR was open on that "pick" play either way. The defender would not have gotten to him. At any rate, we still could have won the game in another OT period. We had outplayed them the last quarter and a half as well as the first OT (they went three and out).
At BYU, the call was reviewed. What more do you want? We had two plays overturned against us earlier in the game and at least one of those (the fumble by BYU) seemed far from conclusive. And if you want to talk about penalties, how about the phantom pass interference call against TCU that kept alive the final drive by SMU? SMU certainly deserved to win that game (and it was no fluke), but there are questionable calls in every game and one call does not determine the outcome. Sounds like sour grapes.
