marshall roll callLiving here in the Carolinas, it is rare that I get to an out of town game. (I usually make it to one SMU home game every year) But with the move to CUSA, I now have my opportunities. I'm not near as excited after last week and especially yesterday's debacle but I'll be at the game this Saturday in Huntington. My wife and kids are getting together with another SMU classmate and family from Cincinnati.
I have no idea what to expect but I have learned to expect nothing. Marshall will probably be angry that they lost to hapless UCF and will take it out on our hapless bunch. I'm usually a sunshiner, but yesterday took the wind out of my sail. I'll try to be more optimistic by the end of the week. Let's just be a lot more creative with our play calling. And how about letting some of these guys like Henderson play on offense? Just like Kinky Friedman says as he runs for governor, "How can I be any worse" I ask "how can Phillips be any worse?" Hope to see some other Ponies at the game this week. Class of 82. "Your announcer is Bill Melton."
SMU didn''t try against Tulane because they felt sorry for them.
SMU didn't try against Tulane because they were worried about their families in east Texas. Do we have any reason to feel sorry for Marshall? I hope not. We seen to be a very sensitive group.
Uhm, they're from an economically challenged part of the United States, West Virginia. People don't have shoes, they eat squirrels and possum for dinner because they can hunt for free. I'm sure we could really come up with all sorts of sensitive reasons to care for the lowly Herd folk. They lost to Central Florida and I'm sure that really hurt.
And DC Pony - shame on you. Amtrak goes straight into downtown Huntington. 2 nights of 3.2 beer, a beautiful train ride through the New River gorge would run you less than $300 including hotel. No excuse for not going.
The sorry state of this team is excuse enough to avoid flushing good money down the toilet.
While that may be true jt, I still would love to be there. I have been planning on going, but alas, I have started a new job and must work on Oct. 1. Ah, the best laid plans. Guess those of us in the Carolinas must wait until SMU plays ecu in Greenville. I still refuse not to root for my team. I don't necessarily blame them, but like many wish coeland gone, and some sense to overcome our trustees and administration.
Go Ponies!
------- Hmmm, brings a song to mind... "Come and listen to a story bout a man name Jed, a poor Mountaineer barely kept his family shed..." Of course, oil n gas changed his life. Ain't it great in Tejas?!?
Come on fellas keep it clean.
Anyway, please swing by our Herdfans.com tailgate in the Inferno parking lot across the street from the football stadium. It is located on 5th avenue just before the railroad tracks. (5th ave is a one way street going into town). Hope to see y'all there.
EastStangEastStang,
What do you know about people from WV? Have you ever been to WV? I have lived here all of my life and yes, we have our economic problems, but you will not find more kind and generous people. I just wish we could get rid of this image that has haunted this state for years.
Yes, I've been to West Virginia where the state flower is the satelite dish standing next to the double wide. I've driven from Wheeling on down. I've gone on those twisting turning up and down two lane roads. Loosen up MU. We tease, we have to keep up our snob image. You missed our picking on Aggies two weeks ago, just scroll down the list of topics to see some of those. Our comments in here are pretty tame. Note I did talk about the beauty of the train ride through the New River Gorge. I am giving some of our folks a chance to have some fun. By the way, how's that marriage to your cousin working out?
eaststang uses the term "we" pretty liberally. we don't all think that way, marshall fans. i think making fun of a team's loyal fans is pretty tasteless and the jokes about marrying your cousin are really, really tired and lame. WV is a beautiful state with really nice people.
so this part of "we" is glad to be playing you and in the same conference. just wish our team was a little better.
State Flower the Sateliite dish. Man, it's startling that an esteemed university like SMU, has educated graduates that hold serious stereotypes like EastStang. As HoofBeat has said, he uses the term "we" liberally, so I don't think all Stang fans are as mis-informed as he. I am looking forward to meeting as many Stang fans as possible, yes even you EastStang.

Look, guys, I'm kidding. As I said, I have been in every part of West Virginia. And you may not like it and all kidding aside, there are still a ton of very poor and poverty stricken areas in that state that seriously need help. Sure, the cities are growing and expanding. The areas near Winchester are growing extremely fast. But there are many people in that state still left behind the economic curve (boom). If you have never gone to Appalachia, it will be shocking to you. The people are great, but you can't imagine their plight. Fact: In Virginia, first cousins can marry first cousins, they can't in West Virginia. Yet that old joke has been around forever. So unwad your panties, I won't make any more West Virginia jokes before this year's game. Now, when we win.....
