We cannot live and die by JUCO's and transfers. They are nice to add here and there to fill a hole, but Bennett's plan was to build through HS recruiting. That is where your team is made or broken. Up until last year, he seemed to be making good on that plan. His first two years he recruited some decent HS recruits. This year, well, its slipping. The question is why we are not attracting quality HS players at this point in time. Is it grade requirements? Is it that Bennett's tenure at SMU has produced such a poor won/loss record that recruits don't want to ride a sinking ship? Is it that fans don't come out to games at SMU in the numbers that these kids would get excited about? Is it a mixture of all of these? These are the questions that need to be asked. Sure, JUCO's and transfers might be helpful here and there. But your bread and butter are HS players and if you don't get those, your program is starting to swirl.

Based on Bennett's past how in the hell can you come to the conclusion that it was "Bennett's Plan" to recruit high school players. This is the first job he's ever had that didn't have boatloads of JUCOs, transfers and other academic risks. He can't recruit high school players now because our model has insured that SMU has sucked for 16 years. His 2 year new coach honeymoon is now over. BTW in his press conference yesterday Bennett confirmed what I have been telling you for years-and have been criticized for on this board -SMU CAN NOT recruit your average JUCO-the recruit has to be admitted to a field of study which makes only a "slight sliver" (my words) of the availiable JUCO (and for that matter) Transfer crop availiable. As for whether we should be going after JUCOs and transfers , all I can tell you that all of the teams drilling us year after year-except for Rice-all go after Transfers-and all go after JUCOs except Tulane and Rice. Haven't seen Rice win jack in my life.

You are a year late on your analysis…PB’s last recruiting class was a huge drop-off from his first two…this year is anemic

Except that Rice is one of those teams that drills us year after year....
