How does that make him any less a piece of [deleted] than Kiffin?

Actually that makes him more of a piece of [deleted] than Kiffin because Kiffin actually worked hard and genuinely wanted to be at USC.

It is also obvious that this administration certainly does not view sports and especially football in the same was as those running the University of Southern California for example. When all is said and done SMU has been de-emphasizing football since the 1950's. SMU has permitted some interested and capable alumni to keep things going under varying degrees of university control Since the restart of football at SMU it has been handled in a way that mostly kept us out of trouble. Its okay when the money comes in that way, same as if there were a donation for a new building, or an endowed chair, or valuable donation to the library. It does not mean Turner and others agree with those who think that good interscholastic sports are needed.

That's not to mention what seems a real possibility of donor fatigue on the part of the C of C so far as the next coach is concerned or doubts about raising a younger band of wealthy donors if only the present group would butt out.

No Quarter, your above paragraphs are right on the mark. Problems we have start at the very top, and we can try to shift the blame all we want. It still doesn't change a thing.

And yes, jj needs to go today! Yesterday. Last year..

If you're going to fire Jones before the end of the season, which everyone with a brain realizes SHOULD be the case, it needs to be done TODAY, not tomorrow, not Tuesday-TODAY. Seize on the absolute devastation that has occurred.

I suspect, though, we will see that Hart is who we thought he is: Casper the lapdog ghost.

By not making a move now, it sends a loud message that SMU has no interest in competing in D1 football.

Firing the HC is a board level decision. Then the attorneys from each side get involved.

Thursday or Friday next week.

JJ Gone This Week

Hopefully, the midnight oil burned last night to get the process rolling. Because it's time to part company with June.

I know 99.9% of fans want June gone, now we're down to timing. I understand both arguments: now vs. November. If they move now I really hope they're smart with the messaging. Focus needs to be on our financial commitment, our fans' commitment, and that apathy is a fatal mistake by a coach. Then each and every fan needs to support the move by showing up in force for every remaining game, through every painful loss. It can work.

So you say the student-athletes he "coaches" mean less than making Jones uncomfortable in a position that he already doesn't care about? This cancer is metastasising and must be removed before it gets worse and starts really impacting other programs.

It is an easy sell. You are firing the coach now because SMU, as a school and as a family, cares about the wellbeing of its student-athletes more than anything else. Due to the culture of failure and climate of discontent surrounding the program at this time, the only option available that wouldn't actively damage or do harm to our most important asset, our students, was to let June Jones go and begin the healing process of supporting our student-athletes with our action on the program's future.

Simple.

JJ should be released immediately so that he can focus on what's really important to him: a spring college football league. He could use whatever payout he gets from SMU for the initial investment to make sure the league gets off to a good start, unlike our team.

The fire needs to be done on Tuesday. It is the slowest day on the national sports calendar so it will be picked-up nation wide. You take today and tomorrow to prepare the process and then tuesday afternoon is when you call all of the committed and potential prospects and their coaches so they know what is happening, and at the same time, you hold a press conference. At this presser, you have everyone associated with the program that has been defined as a success. Current NFL players that can make it, retired players like Dickerson and James, etc. The visual presented of success at that press conference will set the standard PR wise for all statements to follow. This has to be done right. You don't change what realistically has been about 3 decades of mediocrity overnight, and that change won't work unless you define professionalism and exemplify organized management in every asset of that change.

No, fire him TODAY. It's been long enough to show it was not an emotional decision, but it also shows the fan base, students and team that their school is serious and hears them. Delaying just makes the school look weak and cowardly.

Edit: And trust me, if we fire, him today, it will get front page headlines everywhere.
