Go Stangs you are wrong that the Chinese do not give back. Look at some of the gifts from some of the top boarding schools and some of the biggest donors are from asian countries. Alums from these schools are great at donating. There is lots of money in China. It is about balance and finding the right families.

I am not wrong. it is well documented across most of higher education. Not saying it never happens - it just isn't culturally what they prefer to do.

That looks like the 2014 list; the 2015 list comes out tomorrow. They have a weird way of dating their rankings. I guess they think their new ranking will be used by students starting college in 2015.

I had two Chinese living above me when I foolishly slumed it in Amesbury one year. They did not help matters. I don't think they have the same food storage standards we do

Go Stangs, our asian families at my childs boarding school are extremely generous. Our two largest Annual Fund gifts last year were $50,00 each. Another new family just gave $500,000 to our capital campaign with no previous ties to the school. We have a building named after a Chinese family. Our school makes yearly trips to asia to find the best kids. SMU could do this too and boost our Annual giving. They need to make trips over there. All the top boarding schools in the US do this. I also would not say asians are ruining USC. The California students are flocking to Texas because they can't all get in the California schools! It is almost impossible to get into UCLA,Stamford and Berkley. If you go back 25 years USC and SMU were evenly ranked. Now SMU is #58 and USC is #25.

I know once you get top 60 movements can be hard, but I'm a bit surprised by only two. I suppose we should look at it as at least we moved in the right direction. Also, did TCU move 20 spots? I thought I remember them being around 90.

Maybe TCU got a one year bump out of getting into the Big 12 and winning the Rose Bowl. I believe the acceptance rate is a big driver. Not sure if their quality went up dramatically. Public schools seem to be slipping a bit. Maybe larger classes due to reduced funding.

This is one area that Ponyfans keep forgetting in the grand scheme of sports talk. Adequately funded private schools (largely off the Gov't [deleted]) have a huge advantage going forward. Not that SMU doesn't benefit from Title IV aid, but schools like UNT with 30,000 students and $100m endowment could get swallowed alive. They can't fund sports if they can't fund academics.
