This is personal, emotional "hurt feelings" from ED since Jones was "his" guy, he put the wheels in motion for the hire, and it clearly stopped working after ASU mess.

We all know Jones should have been fired at that moment. Period. In his heart, ED knows that Jones should have been fired then too.

I don't get the SMU blame - what hasn't been provided to Jones that was promised? We have done EVERYTHING he has asked, and honestly SMU puts more work into it than Jones does.

Dude checked out many years ago. So happy he is gone.

I imagine ED is feeling the same frustration and embarrassment that we all are. On top of that, he's defending his friend. I'm sure when ED and JJ talk, JJ is filling ED's ear with all the university's shortcomings.

I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle and that there's plenty of blame to go around: JJ, admin, and yes, even us fans. The fact is that we're all very proud of our school and our team, and we have very high expectations. We've been half-assing it since the return from the DP, and I can assure you that most of the schools we want to compete with (ex: Baylor and TCU) have not. It goes without saying that this game is very competitive. And even with our reputation, our beautiful campus and all that crap, if we're going at it 80% and our rivals have the pedal to the floor, we're going to loose more often than not.

The next 2-3 months will be very telling. I'm hoping against hope that we make another big splash hire, and that whoever that coach is has the cajones to force more institutional changes like Jones did. I hope players will love him as they did JJ. I hope he's more aggressive in recruiting and I hope he'll be able to meld into our traditions and engage the fans.

Sadly, what I'm expecting is another rebuild.

I think we have to commit to funding top assistant salaries, strength/conditioning salaries, and a training table. Probably more important than facilities and it is what helped Larry get the program over the top.

Dickerson is just frustrated. To be expected. This too shall pass. The blame game is boiling over at this point and his frustration is a reflection of the fan base in general.

Like all turnarounds, be that professional, sports, or whatever, you need constant momentum. We had great momentum for the first 3-4 years of June's tenure. Then the ASU fiasco happened and we lost ALL of that momentum and we started moving backwards. I get that ED is pissed, but a couple of years ago we were all thinking we were on the right track. Major changes happened on the administrative front, the community and fans started supporting the team like never before. SMU can be something special, but June decided to let the ASU fiasco derail him. ED is wrong on this. If you're going to blame the school, don't blame them for tying June's hands or not supporting him, blame them for allowing his mediocrity and cancerous energy to exist at the school for 3 years!

ED - Just as much as me, other fans, administration, YOU are SMU.

So when you say "not enough support", be sure to lump yourself into that bucket.

Telling your nephew to not even visit? How is that supporting your alma matter, or your friend JJ?
