When is this guy going to break out and be the player we all thought he'd be when we signed him? He's a huge target, and every time I swing by practice, he's destroying DBs all over the place. He runs around them, jumps over them and even goes through them, and he makes catches you wouldn't believe. Then, on game day, we rarely see him and the ball goes his way even more rarely. Shouldn't a 6-5 receiver with speed be the first target on every passing play? We should be making teams figure out a way to stop him; instead, we're essentially taking him out of our offense without making any try to defend him. I'd think defensive backs would have heart failure if they knew he was going to get a lot of balls thrown his way.

If I'm Richard Bartel, I'm staying after practice with Taylor every day until I feel so comfortable with him that I know where he's going to cut, when he's going to break off his route and which way he'll be leaning when the ball gets there. I'm throwing to Jay Taylor until someone shows me they can stop it.

Richard is comfortable throwing to Jay, but it doesnt matter if they wont play Jay. He deserves to be in the game, he is a great target and could be even better if they'd let him develop some gametime with Richard. Just my two cents.

Not so fast, my friends!

Let's remember that Jay should be a redshirt freshman this year. He had just enough plays last year to cost him his year out of the lineup, so let's remember that he's young and still learning. Everyone learns at a different pace, so let's see what happens when he has a full year with the new offense under his belt. I, for one, still think he's going to be a fine player for the Ponies.

Jay is a great looking target. I bet once he's a little more comfortble, he'll break out for a big year in 2003.
