Avery Cleveland is gone!!!!!52 Avery Cleveland, LB

Well he was one of PB’s 3-star recruits from 2003 that was offered by both Colorado and TCU. He’s only a Soph and personally I thought he might contribute over the next couple of years. Now he’s just another example of why we stay perpetually young.
Gun, if you can, let us know WHY he left, we would appreciate it.
Yawn. Had more DNP's than tackles this season. Ain't gonna cause us to miss a bowl game.
Yes, but he was one the 10 illustrious "Three Stars" that headlined Bennetts first full recruiting class. Now, 6 of those 10 are gone, and only one is starting. Although Stansbury's injury will move Muse into the starting lineup, and since running back is up in the air Massey could start as well. My real point is that group, within that class, were supposed to be the spearhead of our turnaround. Now, must of them are gone, and Sturdivant is the only consistently productive player remaining. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Or, the argument could be made, this also speaks to the brilliance of basing recruiting analysis on the opinions of a bunch of non-coaches. This has nothing to do with Avery Cleveland, but every school in the country has had a kid who was big or fast (a la Renaldo Nehimiah) or strong and still wasn't a player. The numbers a guy puts up at a combine can indicate raw athleticism, but that's all. The great players like Sergio Kindle are great players -- there's no arguing their ability -- and have an awfully good shot at being a very successful college player. But the number of "stars" remains overrated.
Personally, I always thought Avery Cleveland looked the part. But he played so little I have no idea if he could play or not. I wish him the best, whatever he ends up doing.
Re: Avery Cleveland is gone!!!!!I'll let you know when he signs on at Sam Houston State.
all I know is that SMU is in BIG TROUBLE next year at LB. Once again Phil Bennett is one of the worst coaches I've ever seen in developing young players in a rebuilding program PERIOD. Cleveland never made it on the field this year except in the blowout against Texas A&M-made 2 tackles in that game.
