Re: It's serious: Morris and Beaty are "very interested"
Diaz was considered one of the top young defensive minds in the country when he was at Miss State prior to joining Texas. It didn't work out at all w/ UT but then again the Mack Brown assistant coach curse struck a few of his guys (Greg Robinson, Duane Akina, Applewhte, etc.). The straw that broke the camel's back was the BYU game last year.
Look any current DC who is going to take a lateral move to come to SMU is gonna have a few warts. Just thinking of guys that have Texas ties and would be a part of a really good, young staff.

Back off Warchild seriously.

Diaz also was accused of having a soft defense at UT. When Greg Robinson took over as DC it was a lot better when he made the start hitting in practice more. Greg Robinson could be the DC.

But that A&M staff is loaded
I'm guessing that Chad would call plays and (mostly) take care of the offense. That would help make up for Beatty's lack of experience

Dream team there. Question is could we pull it off?
If this happens, nobody needs to give me credit. But some cash might be nice.

Beat the hell out of anybody!

Our university has so much to offer. Of course great coaches are interested. It is an easy turn around for someone who works hard.
Since 1986, it has been one kick in the nuts followed by another two.

No. They were weak against everyone.
But, as a Texas-Ex (grad school), I think that facts have shown that UT's problems under Mack were top to bottom.

Plus we've never tried the Model + Texas recruiting staff
We've tried everything else-why not try the idea with the most common sense especially if we are talking about a hot national offensive coordinator. Todd Graham is a great example of what we are trying to pull together. See the thread about Norvell and all the top young assistant that came through that program. Graham a product of Texas High School football
This is exactly right, but I do wonder why Stallion always capitalizes the M in model

Do you really wonder?

I wouldn't mind keeping Mason as DC....

You win big here (and by win big I mean more than just one win against TCU and a bunch of .500 seasons) and you can write your ticket to the next huge opening around the country. With the increased exposure of the AAC, location, academics, facilities, and $$$, there is zero reason why a top notch coordinator wouldn't consider coming to SMU. Face it. We aren't going the Cavan/Bennett route.
Also, talked to a buddy who is tight with a CoC member. He told me two very important things:
1) Next HC will be paid same or slightly more than JJ
2) Budget for assistants will be increased
This is why many coaches are actually eager for the job. Do really well here and a coach can punch his ticket to a major school. Yes we are a stepping stone but I will enjoy the ride....

I don't know too many "stepping stones" paying $2.5MM to their coach. This should be a place for an unproven coach to come in and build a champion (like patterson @ TCU although they are not good now) and stay. If it was a stepping stone job it would be paying in the $500K to $800K range.

Re: It's serious: Morris and Beaty are "very interested"
My point is that we have the funds and resources to keep a successful coach around to where he wouldn't want to go to a so called "major school".
