it is correct and commendable that these ex-players thank JJ for the opportunities they were give. today SMU coast $60,586, take a 5% compound increase over the next 3 years equals $261,132. the cost of an SMU education. many of these players were not given offers to attend football ranked division I schools, so they are indeed beholding to JJ.

There is more to life than football. Unfortunately, this sport rewards many who make it their only purpose in life! June will find if he is healthy and stays retired that he can do so much more to make this world a better place to live and in doing so can find true happiness.

Don't people eulogize the world's biggest a-hole at his/her funeral? Same thing.

This is why I hated the insults that some traveled in daily as crazy fans.

Stop trying to deflect from reality with the 'Jones hate' strawman. I've never heard anybody say they hate him personally or as a human being, and almost everyone universally agrees that he very much cared for his players and they appreciated him for that in return.

June was simply lazy, aloof, and gave up on this program the last couple years. That is a fact acknowledged as much by his agent this week, and June's own actions the last year at least.

Should have been man enough to leave when he gave up, instead of going through the motions with his staff of buddies in order to pad his retirement.

Can't wait to see what real leadership, recruiting, and dedication can do for this program, alumni, fans, parents, and most of all players.

Still confused why he never managed and deployed an aggressive staff that sold what he really is on the local recruiting trail - a great mentor with virtually unmatched NFL connections in D-1 football. Once you get past the first 100 players taken every year in the draft, it really is a crap shoot on who gets drafted or signed in FA - they're mostly all talented athletes. His connections worked wonders for the kids that played for him because people in the league trust his judgment. Why couldn't he sell the program to high schools the way he sells his players to NFL GM's???? Even 4 stars need a connected supporter to help them get to the league. Oh well, moving on.

Sure, but at the same time, instead of just thrashing out against June, it is worth digging in to understand why he gave up in the first place. Was it just his internal issues? Or are there things that need to change for us to be competitive (not academics or facilities. Maybe pay or more personnel support for the football program). We should at least find out because it sure seems like there are a lot of ex-players out there who sympathize with him.

You shouldn't have to dig into anything about "why he gave up in the first place". The guy was gettting paid $2 million+ to do a job and he seemingly quit. Don't cash the paychecks if you don't want to do the work.
