Hopefully after we get shut out 2 more times in a row, Mason will reconsider some bigger changes to the offense.
With Davis injured, Cassell has to be the starter and the backups are true freshman (or kritisch), Mason can't make wholesale changes. I suspect that we will see some changes every week.
That said, I think he will be more willing to narrow the offense and simplify it than June was.
At this point, a more interesting adjustment might be if anything is done at WR - will they still run read routes or will they move to a fixed route system that takes a little more advantage of the explosiveness of some of the younger guys.
How could it be made more simple than June did for the past two weks? Swing passes, Bubble passes and draw plays with an occasional fly pattern.
The RnS is based upon the WRs and the QBs making the same reads at the same time. Cassell (and the Freshman) probably aren't ready to be on the same page as the WRs.
Solution: the WRs run fixed routes (as per spread) so the QBs have less to figure out.
I think that is one thing to simplify it. It also allows the younger WRs to be productive sooner. Hopefully they can move to that model.
The other thing they can do is cut half the field. That is what they did with Padron in his good season. They cut half the field and gave him two options on each pass play. It might be effective especially with a Davis out there. You send the opposite side of the field on deep routes to clear out room, then on the right side, one guy deep, one guy short, look deep if not open look short then run.
