Some feel quick to discard some coaches that have won national championships. Not many coaches can say that. Not to mention, if a coach of that quality wants to come to SMU I'd have to believe it's more than for a paycheck. They would have received that at their previous stops. I think that kind of coach comes here to prove people wrong. To prove they are not washed up or got lucky. That they do have the fire, will and ability to compete and win anywhere. As much as I love Chad Morris, and really want him as our coach, Mack Brown deserves credit and respect for what he has done. Chad still hasn't been a HC at any DI school. Yet alone win big at multiple stops. I'd be thrilled to have a former national championship coach leading the charge into Ford.

Funny some of the same people who dump on Mark Brown also suggested trying to hire Coker. Coker before starting at UTSA is a poorman's version of today's Mack Brown

June was able to coach but not recruit and Brown was able to recruit but couldn't coach very well. SMU would go from one extreme to the other if Brown were hired imo. And Brown's players were undisciplined as we have seen by so many of his players being dismissed or suspended by Strong.

I haven't seen anyone dump on Mack, at least in this thread.

Not really going to argue you with you here, as Mack's teams were not great the last couple of seasons. Definitely not up to Texas' expectations. Hated Manny Diaz and to this day Texas struggles tackling. But I find it laughable that he couldn't coach well. Who gets credit for coaching well when they won 9+ games for 12 straight seasons? Or 10+ games for 9 straight seasons?

You are correct. Not on this thread anyways. I'm spouting off about comments I have read or heard on this topic with various former coaches, not just Mack. Sorry to have moved this in the wrong direction.

All I want is someone that can get fired up and act like a cheerleader on meth and wears the school colors.

That's all that really matters.

Phil Bennett it is.

I already hate whoever we choose. It is the wrong choice for SMU.

I like Fulmer except that he's 64 years old. I don't want him do it for 3 years and then decide he's ready to retire. I'm not a fan of Chizik.

Personally, I'd rather have someone with more "fire in his belly" and something to prove than Mack, but it is still an interesting thought.

Although he was diplomatic, it was clear to me that Mack was mad and that his fire hadn't subsided one bit. While he is not the coaching genius that LB is, Mack loves being a HFC in college football. He loves the kids. He loves recruiting and dealing with parents. As a Texas alum, I can tell you that he always did a great job of selling the school to everyone he met. Basically, he loves everything that June hated. With the right assistants, he would be fantastic for our program.

When I was on the 40 Acres, the stadium was smaller (crappier) and there were entire sections empty unless it was "big" game. Mack changed that.

While he might not be the right hire for us, somebody is going to get him to coach next year - book it.

Shocking if Hart considers any of these turds. Chizik is the funniest of all, horrible coach who happened to hit the lottery 1 year with Cam and Malzahn. Mack and Fulmer washed up has beens with terrible records at the end of their careers. They were both fired for very good reason.

Recruits today could care less about these dinosaurs and what they did 10+ years ago. We're no more rolling the dice with a young and aggressive up-and-comer, than we would be trying to recycle an old has-been.

LB is known as a superb teacher Mack Brown isn't. Big difference. Mack just recruited well enough to overcome the coaching deficiencies. But I believe he could get here and win about 7 games per year and while sitting back making a cool 2 mil per year and most everyone would be happy.
