Latest coaching rumorsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Latest coaching rumorsThat's fine. Pay him $1.5M to $2M if he will agree to come here for that and increase the pot for assistants.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Re: Latest coaching rumorsWould love to have Brown.
The question is whether or not Brown is even halfway interested in the SMU job? All I have read is speculation by sports writers saying Brown would be a good fit.
Re: Latest coaching rumorsYou have a big time coach leave making $2.1 mil. and your going to offer a even bigger time coach, at the college level anyway, $1.5 mil. Will he be insulted? Maybe not the best way to start relations. Just saying.
Re: Latest coaching rumorsIIRC the first post JJ mention of dollars was to the effect that up to 2.5 mil would be available for the next coach and more money for the assistants. Now some of the talk is a lot more than that and and more for the staff also.
Maybe so. Maybe the money would be there. But I agree with those who suggest the base salary ought to be in the 1.5 mil range, except I'd like big bonuses or or incentives or raises when specified goals in recruiting, wins, bowl games, attendance, and even the invitation to a different conference are met.

Re: Latest coaching rumors
If the bigger time coach was employed we would have to offer more. I don't think anyone but SMU will be betting down his door imo. If he feels insulted then he can continue being unemployed. You must be Mack's agent. #HammerDown

We are so lucky to have you to divine the hidden motivation behind people's posts for us.
Re: Latest coaching rumors
That is what I am hearing regarding the coach and staff as well. #HammerDown
Re: Latest coaching rumorsYou could always offer him bonus incentives for meeting progress goals. Just some ideas: $1.5 million salary, $250 thousand for winning the conference, $500 thousand for top 25 in AP poll, and $750 thousand -$1 million for top 10. Same for recruiting with compensation based on either Rivals or Scout ratings or some other measurable that can be quantified for performance. At least it would provide an incentive to perform.
Re: Latest coaching rumors
C'Mon now, if a coach were to come in here and do all that, his incentive payments should be WAY WAY higher than this. If you are gonna be cheap on a coach on his base salary, then at least pay him what those incentives are really worth, which would be many times what you are saying. With that said, no coach accepts this kind of crap in a contract. Pony up, and pay what you think he is worth if he performs as you think he is capable performing. Otherwise, you are just being cheap. Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: Latest coaching rumors@footballscoop Clemson’s loss to FSU (without Jameis) makes it even more likely that Chad Morris will begin immediately once accepting the head coaching position at SMU. Every coach wants to be true to their current players and there are clear situations (like where you have a shot to play for the national championship) where you wouldn’t even consider not coaching them; but this isn’t that. If Morris is offered the position, and I think he will be, there really is no reason for either side for him to delay making the move.
Re: Latest coaching rumorsYeah good luck with that-this guy is a coaching expert? By the time SMU hirers a Coach there will be 15 jobs that have opened and Morris will be a prime target for several
