Re: Mack?
Another example of why Mack Brown would be a big mistake. The guy is too old and has obviously lost his mojo.
Anybody see his interview with Paul Finebaum yesterday? So pathetic, full of excuses and politician like. Very, very June...esque.
Interviewer asked him flat out if he felt any responsibility for the mess he left at Texas, dismissals, etc. He says absolutely not and then tries to deflect with a bunch of irrelevant excuses.

Charlie Strong is using the dismissals to clean out players that he doesn't want. If a player is on his list, he is going to be drug tested every day until he "breaks team rules."
As for his political answers, he is a UT employee getting paid a nice severance package. He is not going to call out the big money boosters who were meddling in the program for the past 5 years.

Larry Coker oversaw the decline and failure of a similar program and it doesn't seem to have affected his ability to recruit and win at UTSA of all places. Not all situations are linear and age has nothing to do with potential success as a head coach at the college level.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Larry Coker can absolutely coach, but his recruiting has been the same or worse than June's. Out of his current class of 20 commits he has ONE 3 star.

Re: Mack?
you guys need to remember that UTSA has something like 18 graduating Senior starters and 39 graduating letterman. Its going to be difficult for him to sustain success-but give him credit. I think it will likely be a big drop off like SMU saw when its 38 senior lettermen graduated in 1992. (SMU played though in much tougher SWC)

Re: Mack?
He recruited players to a school that was not going to play any games for a few years and is winning with them. I would say he knows how to both evaluate and recruit.

Re: Mack?
What about player evaluation abilities with respect to the next coaching staff? Just because a guy and his staff can recruit and coach, is it not possible that they may end up recruiting the wrong 4 star prospects? For example, many times in the NFL a winning coach will demand that he has full control of not just the coaching but also the player selection, and then we he gets the control, he ends up making bad calls in the draft/free agency. I guess where I am going is regardless of who we get at coach, maybe SMU should consider hiring several former successful NFL scouts whose sole job it is to find and evaluate talent that they believe will develop into successful players rather than relying on Rivals.com/espn.com/scout.com......

Maybe we should search for the Brown Note

A little bit of attitude and confidence. That being said if it turned out to be Mack I think he would be by far the best Coaching hire at SMU since the DP including Gregg, Rossley, Cavan, Bennett and Tiki God. Its not even close.
But isnt Todd Dodge available?
